Jon Secada, conocido cantante y compositor cubano que cultiva la musica pop y que en su brillante carrera popularizó en los años 90 temas como: “Otro día mas sin verte”. Nacido en Cuba ha ganado dos premios Grammy y vendido 15 millones de discos, lo que lo convierte en uno de los artistas de música latina con mayores ventas. Su música fusiona funk, soul, pop y percusión latina.
Secada ha escrito canciones para Gloria Estefan, Ricky Martin y Jennifer Lopez. Ha realizado giras con Luciano Pavarotti y ha grabado duetos con Jim Brickman, Olivia Newton-John y Frank Sinatra.
Secada se ha presentado varias veces en A Capitol Fourth, un concierto anual del Día de la Independencia del Capitolio de los Estados Unidos televisado por PBS.
El padre de Secada, José, estuvo encarcelado durante 3 años como preso político del gobierno comunista cubano. En 1971, los Secada recibieron permiso para emigrar y se mudaron a Miami. Sus padres abrieron una cafetería. Secada se crió en Hialeah, Florida.

RECUERDOS DE SU NIÑEZ…
Juan Francisco Secada Martínez, (el 4 de Octubre de 1962) su verdadero nombre de nacimiento creció en La Habana hasta los nueve años cuando se marcho de Cuba con sus padres y se establecieron en Miami. Creció escuchando a cantautores como Stevie Wonder, Billy Joel y Elton John, también le encantaban los famosos grupos de rythm & blues como Earth Wind & Fire y Marvin Gaye. En Miami hay influencias de muchas nacionalidades, con una mezcla increíble de música como: salsa, merengue, pop, r&b y disco.
Jon estudió en la Universidad de Miami y fue uno de los primeros estudiantes en obtener su licenciatura y luego su maestría en Interpretación Vocal de Jazz. La carrera estaba muy orientada hacia lo vocacional y enfocada hacia lo que sucedía en las calles, siendo una ayuda enorme para su trabajo. La experiencia de Jon y su deseo de ayudar a los demás lo llevó a establecer las Becas de Música Jon Secada, en la Universidad de Miami. Asimismo, Jon ha jugado un papel elemental en la campaña “Manteniendo La Música en Las Escuelas”, patrocinada por la Academia Nacional de Artes y Ciencias de la Grabación (NARAS).
CARERA ARTISTICA…
Jon conoció a Gloria Estefan y a Emilio Estefan a finales de los ochenta. Al poco tiempo, se convirtió en unos de los cantantes más importantes del coro y también coautor de algunas de las mejores canciones de amor de Gloria. Jon es coautor y, además, cantó coros en el tema “Coming Out of The Dark” y el gran éxito del álbum de Gloria Estefan “Into The Light”.
Para el lanzamiento de su álbum de presentación en 1992, que llevaba como titulo el nombre del cantante, Jon Secada ya era un veterano en el estudio y en el escenario, y estaba muy bien preparado para enfrentar ese éxito rotundo. Trabajó con Emilio durante cinco años, antes del lanzamiento del álbum, con Gloria y con muchos otros artistas (a través de Emilio) en lugares como Europa, Latinoamérica y Japón.
Jon Secada – el artista y el álbum- causaron una explosión total. El álbum vendió más de seis millones de copias alrededor del mundo y fue certificado con ventas de triple platino en los Estados Unidos donde llegó a alcanzar el puesto No. 15 en la lista Billboard de Álbumes Pop. Secada también se colocó en el puesto No. 5 con su éxito y sencillo de oro- “Do You Believe In Us?”. La versión en Español del mismo álbum, “Otro Día Más Sin Verte”, se convirtió en el Álbum Latino Número Uno en 1992, otorgándole a Jon su primer Premio Grammy por el Mejor Álbum Pop Latino.
Después de este éxito decisivo, se lanzó el segundo álbum de Jon, “Heart Soul And A Voice”1992, con la participación de miembros de Miami Sound Machine y artistas invitados de la talla de Arturo Sandoval (trompeta) y Betty Wright (vocales). El álbum alcanzó ventas de platino en los Estados Unidos, el tema “If You Go” se colocó en los diez primeros lugares de las listas de éxitos, más tarde “Mental Picture” también se mantuvo en los primeros 30 Lugares de las listas. Su tercer álbum “Amor”, lanzado en 1995, significó su segundo Premio Grammy por la Mejor Interpretación Pop Latina. En su carrera artística, Jon ha vendido más de 20 millones de discos en todo el mundo.
CONOCIDO INTERNACIONALMENTE…
Además de grabaciones de tanto éxito y conciertos internacionales, Jon Secada ha jugado un papel muy importante en las carreras de dos de las estrellas más reconocidas del Pop Latino. Jon es coautor de la canción “She’s All I Ever Had” (“Bella”) para Ricky Martin en el álbum de esta gran estrella, que logró ventas millonarias y fue lanzado en 1999. Asimismo, Jon es el coautor y coproductor de la canción, “Baila”, para Jennifer López en el álbum “On The Six” que en 1999 alcanzó la popularidad en todo el mundo.
Jon inicia el año 2000 con el lanzamiento de “Better Part Of Me”. Seguidamente, en el 2001 aparece el disco “The Gift” y un año más tarde el LP “Amanecer”.
En el 2003 vuelve a aparecer en los escenarios de Broadway con el musical “Cabaret” y en el 2004 es parte del elenco de la obra “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat”. Un año más tarde regresa a los estudios de grabación y lanza al mercado el disco “Same Dream”.
Secada trabajó en la producción de su próximo álbum, el cual salio al aire en el 2007. También ha sido elegido como uno de los tres jurados del programa “Latin American Idol”.
PERSONAL LIFE…
Secada reside en una casa de 7284 pies cuadrados, con cancha de tenis y piscina, a pocas cuadras al oeste de la Universidad de Miami, su alma mater, en Coral Gables, Florida con su esposa Maritere y su hija Mikaela Nina.
Secada creó la Beca de Música Jon Secada en la Universidad de Miami, recaudó fondos para el esfuerzo de The Recording Academy “Keeping Music in Schools” y apoya muchas iniciativas, incluida la Unidad de SIDA Pediátrico en el Jackson Memorial Hospital, Make-A-Wish Foundation y los Boys & Girls Clubs de América.

Jon studied at the University of Miami and was one of the first students to earn his Bachelor’s and then Master’s in Jazz Vocal Performance. The career was very vocationally oriented and focused on what was happening on the streets, being a huge help to his work. Jon’s experience and his desire to help others led him to establish the Jon Secada Music Scholarships at the University of Miami. In addition, Jon has played a leading role in the “Keeping Music in Schools” campaign, sponsored by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS).
ARTISTIC CAREER…
Jon met Gloria Estefan and Emilio Estefan in the late eighties. Before long, he became one of the top singers in the choir and also co-wrote some of Gloria’s best love songs. Jon co-wrote and additionally sang backing vocals on the track “Coming Out of The Dark” and the smash hit from Gloria Estefan’s album “Into The Light.”
By the time his 1992 debut album was released, named after the singer, Jon Secada was already a veteran in the studio and on stage, and well-prepared for such resounding success. He worked with Emilio for five years, prior to the album’s release, with Gloria and many other artists (through Emilio) in places like Europe, Latin America, and Japan.
Jon Secada – the artist and the album – caused a total explosion. The album sold more than six million copies worldwide and was certified triple platinum in the United States where it peaked at No. 15 on the Billboard Pop Albums chart. Secada also peaked at No. 5 with their hit-and-gold single- “Do You Believe In Us?”. The Spanish version of the same album, “Otro Día Más Sin Verte,” became the Number One Latin Album in 1992, earning Jon his first Grammy Award for Best Latin Pop Album.
