JOSÉ MIGUEL ‘CHOMY” MIYAR Barrueco, antiguo secretario de Fidel Castro y uno de los “históricos” del régimen, murió la madrugada de este viernes en La Habana a los 90 años. Miyar fue también rector de la Universidad de La Habana entre 1966 y 1972, un cargo que ejerció durante los años de duras purgas contra estudiantes y profesores.

“Murió en la madrugada en su casa de Miramar, próxima al Acuario Nacional. Llevaba años con la diabetes descompensada y lo cuidaban dos enfermeras”, comenta una fuente familiar que pide el anonimato. “La familia fue avisada nada más que falleció y muchos de ellos, que están radicados en Italia y España, ya están viajando hacia la Isla para estar en el velorio”.

La prensa oficial no anunció el deceso de Miyar hasta dos horas después de que 14ymedio diera la noticia. Después de este retraso, Granma informó que Miyar será velado en la funeraria de Calzada y K a partir de las 18:00 horas de este viernes. El familiar asegura que tras la muerte de Miyar se apareció “un batallón” de la Seguridad del Estado para hacer una “recogida” de pertenencias, porque él era, refiere, “el más importante archivo vivo que tenía Fidel Castro”.

Nacido en Siboney, Santiago de Cuba, en agosto de 1932, Chomy se graduó como médico y fue una presencia gris pero muy poderosa en la política cubana durante medio siglo. La fortuna familiar, imposible de poner en cifras debido al secretismo que rodea al clan Miyar, contrasta con la imagen de austero que Chomy difundió en los años 60 y 70, cuando se enfundó una chaqueta de caqui, gris oscura de cuello cerrado, que remedaba a la que usaba Mao Tse-Tung. Con aquel “uniforme” se paseaba por los claustros universitarios, las actividades oficiales y los eventos partidistas.

Su tiempo como rector de la Universidad de La Habana coincide con los procesos de “depuración” que concluyeron con la expulsión de estudiantes y profesores acusados de revisionistas, homosexuales y religiosos. Frente a esa casa de altos estudios, cuando todavía no existía el Ministerio de Educación Superior, Chomy tuvo un poder total para definir desde el plan de estudio hasta la política de acceso a las aulas universitarias.

Miyar también se desempeñó como secretario del Consejo de Estado entre 1980 y 2009, un período en que su sola visita a una institución oficial se veía como el arribo de “los ojos y los oídos” del propio Fidel Castro. Posteriormente, tras la enfermedad de Castro, fue nombrado Ministro de Ciencia, Tecnología y Medio Ambiente entre 2009 y marzo de 2012.

“Toda la familia está muy bien colocada económicamente, algunos son dueños de empresas y de una editorial en España, también de negocios poderosos en Italia y en otros países”, detalla el pariente. “En un momento había que contar con él para todo, lo mismo repartía propiedades de casas que regalaba cargos, y siguió siendo, hasta el final de su vida, un gran fanático de Fidel Castro”.

Durante una feria internacional, Castro se obsesionó con una muchacha que estudiaba física, señala el familiar de Miyar.
