La mítica banda ha logrado mantenerse en el pentagrama musical desde su fundación en 1939 por Orestes Aragón. “La joya” de la Musica Cubana reresa a Estados Unidos despues de casi una decada. En esta ocasión la estrella invitada será el conocido violinista, pianista, flautista, compositor y cantante cubano Pupi Legarreta, de 83 años, que reside en Nueva York.

LA MITICA orquesta cubana Aragón regresa a Nueva York, tras siete años alejada de estos escenarios, con su gira “Icono Tour” para deleitar a sus seguidores con la charanga y otros ritmos con los que ha conquistado al público por más de ocho décadas.
La gira les llevará a algunas ciudades de EE UU en California, seguida por Nueva York, donde se presentarán el 8 de abril en el Lehman Center for the Performing Arts en El Bronx, para a continuación ir a Miami y posteriormente a la República Dominicana y Colombia.
La orquesta, conocida como “las joyas de la música cubana” llevará al público los temas de sus últimos dos discos Icono y Cha cha chá: homenaje a lo tradicional con los que ganó el Grammy Latino en 2020 y 2021, en la categoría de Mejor Álbum Tropical Tradicional.

Pero, también traen en la maleta sus tradicionales y candentes éxitos que el público espera, dijo a EFE su director, Rafael Lay.
“Siempre hay clásicos que el público quiere escuchar” y entre ellos son inolvidables Pare cochero, Pregúntame cómo estoy, El paso de Encarnación, Bruca Maniguá o Siboney.

Señaló además que para la banda será un honor volver al escenario del Lehman, donde hace siete años dieron su primer concierto y compartieron entonces escenario con la orquesta de charanga Broadway, que fundó y dirige el flautista cubano Eddy Zervigón.
En esta ocasión la estrella invitada será el conocido violinista, pianista, flautista, compositor y cantante cubano Pupi Legarreta, de 83 años, que reside en Nueva York y fue parte de las Estrellas de Fania.
La gira servirá para presentar a los seguidores del grupo a su nuevo cantante Alexander Martínez, tras la muerte el pasado 22 de agosto de quien fue la voz principal de la banda durante casi 30 años, Ernesto Bacallao Serrano, a los 64 años.
EL REGRESO DE LA ARAGON DE CIENFUEGOS
La orquesta Aragón, que jugó un papel clave en la configuración del panorama de la música cubana, encabezó internacionalmente la primera ola de cha cha chá y la “mambomanía”, que cautivó al público estadounidense con el sonido característico del son cubano tradicional.

“Siempre tratamos de mantener la cordialidad, la familiaridad, que cada miembro que entre se sienta bien, no importa el tiempo que tenga (en el grupo). Aparte de que siempre estamos al tanto de lo que está sucediendo (en la música) y tratamos de acoplarnos sin perder la esencia”, comentó además a EFE.
Lay comentó además a EFE que este concierto será especial para él porque conocerá a Legarreta, que interpretará algunos de los clásicos de Aragón y que fue amigo de su padre, el violinista, compositor y arreglista Rafael Felipe Lay (1927-1982), que tocó con la orquesta y también la dirigió en lo que se conoce como época dorada de la banda.
Aseguró que contar con Legarreta “es lo mejor que puede suceder” porque podrá escuchar historias acerca de su familia, ya que todos son de Cienfuegos.
“Será una oportunidad de conocerle y sentarme a escuchar sus historias de esa época (cuando Legarreta vivía en Cuba)”, señaló. La Unesco declaró a la Aragón Patrimonio de la Humanidad en 2005 y le otorgó la Medalla Pablo Picasso.

LA MITICA orquesta cuban Aragón returns to New York, after seven years away from these stages, with its “Icono Tour” to delight its followers with the charanga and other rhythms with which it has conquered the public for more than eight decades.
The tour will take them to some US cities in California, followed by New York, where they will perform on April 8 at the Lehman Center for the Performing Arts in the Bronx, to then go to Miami and later to the Dominican Republic and Colombia.

He assured me that having Legarreta “is the best thing that can happen” because he will be able to hear stories about his family, since they are all from Cienfuegos.
