Argelia Fragoso representa la superposición perfecta entre el talento innato y los estudios especializados que la llevaron al Conservatorio Franz Liszt en Weimar, Alemania. Su versátil voz la ha llevado a transitar por disímiles géneros: son, pop, sentimiento, bolero y balada son algunos con los que ha brillado en los escenarios más importantes del mundo.
De formación clásica. Ella nace en una familia musical; Sus padres cantaron en su juventud y en su familia hay músicos profesionales, sus tíos fueron guitarristas y profesores de música que han formado en Cuba a muchas generaciones de músicos, el vínculo con lo más autóctono de la música popular cubana siempre ha acompañado a Argelia.
Argelia Justina Fragoso Molina nació en La Habana, el 14 de mayo de 1957. El amor por la música viene de sus padres, quienes cantaban su trova tradicional cubana y le permitieron codearse con artistas de la talla de César Portillo de la Luz y Angel Díaz, figuras cumbres del sentimiento movimiento en la isla.
ARGELIA FRAGOSO, EN ESCENA INTERPRETA…
Desde los ocho años compartió escenario con la incomparable Moraima Secada, Elena Burke y Omara Portuondo, invitada de lujo en el 25 aniversario de la Orquesta de Aragón. Argelia había sido invitada especialmente por el maestro Rafael Lay, quien conocía a su familia y de sus grandes dotes artísticas.
Al iniciar sus estudios en la Escuela Nacional de Artes (ENA), decidió especializarse en dirección coral, sin dejar de lado sus estudios de piano. En palabras de la propia artista, esa especialidad le permitió aprender más sobre voz y discos, e incursionar en la sinfonía.
Ya como estudiante, Argelia fue galardonada con numerosos premios en Festivales de Música celebrados en Dresde o en Sopot, Polonia, en los que participó gracias a becas en dirección coral recibidas en Alemania.
Después de graduarse, Argelia trabaja en el Instituto Superior de Arte (ISA) que crea el grupo Eco. Posteriormente, fue docente en la ENA, junto a grandes profesores como Isolina Carrillo, Enriqueta Almanza y Luis Carbonell.
CARRERA ARTÍSTICA
La canción marcó la vida de Argelia Fragoso, sobre todo el sentimiento, género cumbre de la canción romántica cubana. La vida artística en la que estuvo sumergido desde muy joven lo dejó saber en público, sobre el escenario, y pudo apreciar el encuentro íntimo con su público.
Sus actuaciones han estado acompañadas por artistas como Frank Fernandez, Yaser Manzano, Rolando Luna, Pancho Amat, Armando Manzanero, Vicente Garrido y Michel Legrand.
Su labor artística la llevó a unir las voces populares de todo el mundo en un festival realizado en Cuba, que cautivó a los asistentes y marcó un antes y un después en el panorama nacional. Esta idea nace de los muchos conciertos y clases que ha dado a nivel mundial y de su deseo de que Cuba tenga encuentros como estos. Su amor por la enseñanza se ha visto reflejado en sus maravillosas clases magistrales y talleres organizados en el Conservatorio Amadeo Roldan.
Por su increíble talento, Argelia Fragoso se ha ganado varios apodos. “La Voz de Oro de Cuba” y la Dama de la Canción hacen justicia a una artista de increíble talento y registro vocal que encandila a cualquiera que la escuche.
Entre sus temas más conocidos se encuentran: “Como murió la flor”, “Mi ayer”, “En busca de una nueva flor”, “Olvidarte” y “He perdido contigo”.
ÚLTIMOS ÁLBUMES
“Entre nosotros”, que es una recreación de la canción cubana y latinoamericana vista desde la perspectiva del jazz, realizada con esa intención junto al contrabajista español Javier Colina y su trío, y con unos arreglos encaminados a recrear el sentimiento.
Ella canta lo sentimental, que es el resultado de una serie de televisión para México, donde tuvo el honor de entrevistar a varias figuras de la música cubana junto al periodista mexicano Virgilio Caballero. Fue grabado en vivo.
Argelia Fragoso es una de las últimas grandes representantes de eso que los cubanos han dado en llamar “feeling”.
Actualmente reside en España.
