Albita Rodríguez Herrera nació en La Habana, Cuba en 1962, emigró a Miami, Florida en 1993 después de vivir primero en Colombia. Sus padres fueron Martín Rodríguez y Minerva Herrera, populares en Cuba por su interpretación de la música folclórica del país.
Albita tiene fuertes raíces en la música folclórica cubana, aunque ha demostrado ser versátil, sobresaliendo en todo tipo de géneros musicales cubanos, desde el guaguancó hasta el son y la descarga. Es conocida por su impecable habilidad para improvisar, comúnmente cantando para miembros de la audiencia en el acto.
Lanzó su primer disco, titulado “Habra Música Guajira”, en 1988. Continuó grabando música y, al llegar a Miami, rápidamente fue contratada para actuar en diferentes restaurantes de clubes nocturnos de la ciudad, llamando la atención. de estrellas internacionales como Quincy Jones, Madonna, Nicole Kidman y Sylvester Stallone.
Lanzó su primer sencillo en Estados Unidos, “Que Manera de Quererte”, en 1995 luego de cerrar un contrato discográfico con Emilio Estefan. Desde entonces, ha recorrido el mundo e incluso ha compartido escenario con artistas como Celia Cruz, Tony Bennett, Juan Luis Guerra y Phil Collins.

En 2004, Albita fundó su propio sello discográfico, “Angel’s Dawn Records”. Desde entonces, ha estado grabando y produciendo sus propios álbumes bajo el sello, incluido “Albita Llegó”, que ganó sus dos premios Grammy en la categoría de Mejor Álbum Tropical Contemporáneo.
En 2005, Albita fue elegida para un papel importante en la obra musical producida en Broadway The Mambo Kings, donde trabajó durante seis meses con excelentes críticas.
En mayo de 2016 actuó en la obra Carmen, que se representó en la Cuba reinventada de los años 50. Dirigida por Christopher Renshaw, Carmen la Cubana actuó en el Théâtre du Châtelet de París y luego en Londres.

Albita Rodriguez Herrera was born in Havana, Cuba in 1962, emigrated to Miami, Florida in 1993 after first living in Colombia. Her parents were Martin Rodriguez and Minerva Herrera, popular in Cuba for their take on the country’s folk music.
Albita has strong roots in Cuban folk music, though she has proven to be versatile, excelling in all kinds of Cuban music genres from guaguanco to son to descarga. She is known for her flawless ability to improvise, commonly singing to audience members on the spot.
She released her first album, entitled “Habra Musica Guajira” (There Will be Guajira Music), in 1988. She continued recording music and, upon arriving in Miami, was quickly booked to perform in different restaurants in nightclubs around town, gaining the attention of international stars including Quincy Jones, Madonna, Nicole Kidman and Sylvester Stallone.

In 2005, Albita was cast for a major role in the Broadway produced musical play The Mambo Kings, where she worked for six months to rave reviews.
In May 2016 she performed in the play Carmen which played in the reimagined 1950s Cuba. Directed by Christopher Renshaw, Carmen la Cubana played at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris and later in London.
In October 2019, she staged two major free concerts in Hialeah and Miami Beach, as part of those cities’ celebrations of National Hispanic Pride month.
In Miami, Albita hosted her own musical show called “La Descarga con Albita” (Jam Session with Albita), centered around unique jam sessions and interview spots with Latin artists.
The songstress has headlined several Hispanic music festivals in Florida and throughout the United States and Europe and continues to write, produce and record her own music.
