Más de 16 mil cubanos obtuvieron visa para España en 2022. Un total de 12,969 personas obtuvieron visas de corta duración, 2,972 de larga duración y 255 de tránsito. Se espera la apertura de una nueva sede diplomática en Camaguey.
EL GOBIERNO ESPAÑOL otorgó en 2022 un total de 16,196 visados a ciudadanos cubanos, según datos oficiales. Mientras otros 4,780 cubanos residentes en España adquirieron en 2022 la nacionalidad de ese país.
De esa cantidad, donde constan visados turísticos, de estudios y de tránsito aeroportuario, 12,969 personas obtuvieron visas de corta duración, 2,972 de larga duración y 255 de tránsito, informó Martí Noticias a partir de los datos facilitados por el Ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores y Cooperación de España (MAEC).
El actual éxodo migratorio -el peor en la historia de Cuba- y los trámites de miles de cubanos para acogerse a la llamada Ley de Nietos (Ley de Memoria Democrática), continúan saturando los servicios consulares en La Habana, en tanto sigue pendiente la autorización del régimen para la apertura de una nueva sede diplomática en Camagüey.
Sobre este último tema, el MAEC se negó a proporcionar información a Martí Noticias para evitar “dañar la negociación en marcha”, lo que “podría suponer por ello un perjuicio para las relaciones exteriores”.
“La apertura de un Consulado General (…) selección de la localidad, de la sede, de la composición de la plantilla… será siempre resultado de numerosas y detalladas negociaciones diplomáticas entre el Estado que envía y el Estado receptor (…) sujetas a las normas de confidencialidad”, indicó el ministerio español en respuesta a la consulta.
Recientemente trascendió que unos 4,780 cubanos residentes en España adquirieron en 2022 la nacionalidad de ese país, posicionándose en el puesto número 10.
El Instituto Nacional de Estadísticas (INE) publicó los datos correspondientes al año anterior y estos reflejan la tendencia a que continúen siendo los cubanos residentes en España uno de los grupos que más solicitan la nacionalidad española.
Hasta abril pasado, Cuba era el país donde más personas habían obtenido nacionalidad española en virtud de la Ley de Memoria Democrática (también conocida como Ley de Nietos) aprobada en octubre, lo que obligó a la embajada a considerar aumentar la cantidad de personal que labora en ella, por el incremento en los trámites.
Desde la entrada en vigor de la normativa, se han disparado las cifras de trámites, lo que ha llevado al colapso a las oficinas de correos que se han quedado sin sellos, en parte, por el aumento de las solicitudes en el marco de la nueva legislación.
El Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores (MINREX) de Cuba llegó a reconocer que el aumento exponencial de los trámites ha generado un atraso en la legalización de documentos. Se estima que unos cinco millones de cubanos podrían beneficiarse de este proceso de la nueva ley.

THE SPANISH GOVERNMENT granted a total of 16,196 visas to Cuban citizens in 2022, according to official data. While another 4,780 Cubans residing in Spain acquired the nationality of that country in 2022.
Of that amount, which includes tourist, study and airport transit visas, 12,969 people obtained short-stay visas, 2,972 long-stay visas and 255 transit visas, reported Martí Noticias based on data provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation. of Spain (MAEC).
The current migratory exodus -the worst in the history of Cuba- and the procedures of thousands of Cubans to benefit from the so-called Law of Grandchildren (Ley de Memoria Democrática), continue to saturate the consular services in Havana, while the authorization is still pending of the regime for the opening of a new diplomatic headquarters in Camagüey.
On this last issue, the MAEC refused to provide information to Martí Noticias to avoid “damaging the ongoing negotiation”, which “could therefore be detrimental to foreign relations.”
“The opening of a Consulate General (…) selection of the location, the headquarters, the composition of the staff… will always be the result of numerous and detailed diplomatic negotiations between the sending State and the receiving State (…) subject to to the rules of confidentiality”, indicated the Spanish ministry in response to the query.
It recently emerged that some 4,780 Cubans residing in Spain acquired the nationality of that country in 2022, ranking number 10.
The National Institute of Statistics (INE) published the data corresponding to the previous year and these reflect the tendency for Cubans residing in Spain to continue to be one of the groups that most request Spanish nationality.
Until last April, Cuba was the country where the most people had obtained Spanish nationality under the Democratic Memory Law (also known as the Grandchildren Law) approved in October, which forced the embassy to consider increasing the number of staff working in it, due to the increase in procedures.
Since the entry into force of the regulations, the numbers of procedures have skyrocketed, which has led to the collapse of post offices that have run out of stamps, in part, due to the increase in requests under the new legislation.
The Cuban Ministry of Foreign Relations (MINREX) came to recognize that the exponential increase in procedures has generated a delay in the legalization of documents. It is estimated that some five million Cubans could benefit from this process of the new law.
