Un parque acuático y más hoteles: ministro cubano Marrero celebra la propuesta de Muthu Hotels en plena caída del turismo. La cadena india ya tiene 7.000 habitaciones en Cuba.
CON EL TURISMO EN BAJA, el régimen insiste en ampliar la gestión extranjera de los hoteles en la Isla y se plantea la construcción de un parque acuático cuando miles de cubanos no tienen acceso estable a agua potable.
El primer ministro cubano, Manuel Marrero Cruz, recibió el miércoles a Nesamani Maran Muthu, presidente de la cadena hotelera MGM Muthu Hotels, entidad que ya cuenta con más de 7.000 habitaciones en la Isla, reportó la oficial Agencia Cubana de Noticias (ACN).
Marrero dijo en Twitter sobre el encuentro con Maran Muthu: “Nos informó su intención de ampliar la gestión de hoteles en nuestro país e invertir en un parque acuático”.
Varios usuarios de Twitter comentaron la publicación de Marrero. Jorge A. González dijo: “Los extranjeros haciendo negocios y billete en Cuba mientras los cubanos escapamos de la Isla y el PCC (Partido Comunista de Cuba) la continúa vendiendo”.
Por su parte, otro internauta identificado como El Pirata Web, comentó: “Tú celebrando con una millonaria india y el país cada día más miserable… ¿No te da vergüenza?”
LOS INVERSIONISTAS INDUES APUESTAN
MGM Group of Companies (abreviatura M. G. Muthu Group) es un conglomerado diversificado de empresas con sede en Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
Es una empresa de 2500 millones de rupias que produce MGM Vodka, Gold Crown y Classic Fine whisky y una docena de otras marcas de licores extranjeros fabricados en la India (IMFL). La compañía tiene un mercado de vodka más fuerte en Tamil Nadu y lo ha expandido a los vecinos Karnataka y Andhra Pradesh.
La ACN recordó que el grupo de empresas MGM Muthu Hotels fue fundado en 1963 y actualmente posee más de 50 hoteles y resorts en Portugal, España, Escocia, Inglaterra, Cuba, Francia, Kenia e India. Dicha cadena fue la primera de origen indio en establecerse en Cuba, hace ya seis años.
MGM Muthu Hotels abrió el primer hotel LGBTIQ+ de Cuba, el Grand Muthu Rainbow Hotel. Esa instalación está ubicada en Cayo Guillermo, subarchipiélago Jardines del Rey, provincia de Ciego de Ávila.
Mientras Marrero publicita nuevos proyectos y alianzas turísticas, ese sector continúa sin levantar cabeza en la Isla. A finales de julio, la hotelera española Meliá Hotels International, la de mayor cantidad de instalaciones turísticas bajo su administración en Cuba, con 33, reportó ganancias millonarias durante 2023 y una recuperación de su negocio en todo el mundo menos en la Isla.
En una reciente entrevista, Miguel Díaz-Canel reconoció un retroceso de 23 años en materia de turismo en Cuba.
El arribo total de viajeros en el primer semestre de 2023 fue de 1.298.539, lo que el Gobierno presentó como una recuperación del 50% respecto a 2019.
La Habana se ha fijado la meta de 3,5 millones de turistas internacionales en 2023. Esta cantidad solo se puede alcanzar manteniendo las cifras logradas en los primeros cinco meses de este año, que son los de la temporada alta.
La tasa de ocupación de las instalaciones en 2022 fue de apenas un 15,6%. Ese año visitaron la Isla 1,6 millones de viajeros internacionales (divididos en un millón de turistas y unos 600.000 cubanos residentes en el exterior de visita), por debajo de la meta de los 1,7 millones, que partió de un reajuste de la previsión inicial de 2,5 millones, según cifras de la ONEI.
Por otra parte, el parque acuático que propone Muthu Hotels llega en un momento de severa sequía y graves problemas en la red de suministro de agua en Cuba. A principios de este mes trascendió que más de 600.000 cubanos recibían agua potable en camiones cisterna. No obstante, el Gobierno cubano cuando prioriza la construcción de redes hidráulicas para polos turísticos donde solo hay hoteles.

MGM Group of Companies (abbreviation M. G. Muthu Group) is a diversified conglomerate of companies headquartered in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
It is a Rs 2,500 crore company that produces MGM Vodka, Gold Crown and Classic Fine whiskey and a dozen other Indian Made Foreign (IMFL) liquor brands. The company has a stronger vodka market in Tamil Nadu and has expanded it to neighboring Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
The ACN recalled that the MGM Muthu Hotels group of companies was founded in 1963 and currently owns more than 50 hotels and resorts in Portugal, Spain, Scotland, England, Cuba, France, Kenya and India. This chain was the first of Indian origin to establish itself in Cuba, six years ago.
