Georgina García y Tamargo mejor conocida como Gina Romand nació el 15 de febrero de 1938 fue una actriz cubano-mexicana. Al momento de su muerte era una de las últimas estrellas de la Época de Oro del cine mexicano.

Su carrera artística comenzó en su país natal como vedette estrella de la discoteca Tropicana. Posteriormente se trasladaría a Estados Unidos para bailar en el espectáculo “La Parisien” realizado en el Casino de Paris, ubicado en Las Vegas, Nevada. Posteriormente viajaría a México, país donde iniciaría su carrera como actriz. Debutaría en el cine con apenas quince años en Soy muy macho (1953). El 7 de octubre de 1954 emprendería un viaje de regreso a Estados Unidos. Durante esta estancia en el país filmó la película Atrápame si puedes de 1959, coproducida con su Cuba natal y en la que sólo le dieron un pequeño papel secundario.

Estuvo nominada al Premio Ariel a la Mejor Actriz de Reparto por su interpretación de Kiki Herrera Calles en la película biográfica del cantante José José, Gavilán o Paloma (1985).

La cubana que conquistó el cine nacional con su talento y belleza en los años 80, fue reconocida como “La Rubia de Categoría” gracias a que fue imagen del comercial de cerveza Superior.

Además, fue promocionada por la reconocida actriz estadounidense Farrah Fawcett y se hizo popular con la frase “La rubia que todos quieren”, que se convirtió en su eslogan.

VIDA PERSONAL Y MUERTE DE GINA ROMAND

En 1966 se casó con el productor de teatro mexicano Salvador Varela. Juntos tuvieron tres hijos, una niña llamada Georgina del Carmen Varela García, quien también es actriz y cantante como Gina Varela, y dos niños, Gabriel Varela y Francisco, quienes fallecieron en 2001 a los 33 años en un accidente automovilístico. Su marido murió el 8 de agosto de 2020.

Cinco días después de la muerte de su marido, Romand sufrió un infarto, por lo que tuvo que ser trasladada de urgencia a un hospital, donde su vida corrió peligro, pero finalmente logró recuperarse. En octubre del mismo año fue nuevamente hospitalizada y sus hijos tuvieron que pedir donantes de sangre para salvar su vida.

Después de haber estado hospitalizada durante varios días a finales de noviembre de 2022, falleció de neumonía el 3 de diciembre de 2022 a la edad de 84 años.

Georgina García y Tamargo better known as Gina Romand was born on February 15, 1938 was a Cuban-Mexican actress. At the time of her death she was one of the last stars from the Golden Age of Mexican cinema.

Her artistic career began in her native country as a star vedette of the Tropicana nightclub. Later she would move to the United States to dance in the show “La Parisien” held at the Casino de Paris, located in Las Vegas, Nevada. Later she would travel to Mexico, a country where she would start a career as an actress. She would make her film debut when she was barely fifteen years old in I Am Very Macho (1953). On 7 October 1954, she would embark on a trip back to the United States. During this stay in the country, she filmed the 1959 film Catch Me If You Can, co-produced with her native Cuba and in which she was only given a small supporting role.

She was nominated for an Ariel Award for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Kiki Herrera Calles in the biopic of singer José José, Gavilán o Paloma (1985).

The Cuban who conquered the national cinema with her talent and beauty in the 80s, was recognized as “La Rubia de Categoría” thanks to the fact that she was the image of the Superior beer commercial.

Also, she was promoted by the well-known American actress Farrah Fawcett and became popular with the phrase “The blonde that everyone wants”, which became her catchphrase.

PERSONAL LIFE AND DEATH OF GINA ROMAND

In 1966, she married Mexican theater producer Salvador Varela. Together they had three children, a girl named Georgina del Carmen Varela García, who is also an actress and singer as Gina Varela, and two boys, Gabriel Varela and Francisco, who died in 2001 at the age of 33 in a car accident. Her husband died on 8 August 2020.

Five days after her husband’s death, Romand suffered a heart attack, for which she had to be rushed to a hospital, where her life was in danger, but she eventually managed to recover. In October of the same year, she was hospitalized again and her children had to ask for blood donors to save her life.

After having been hospitalized for several days at the end of November 2022, she died of Pneumonia on 3 December 2022 at the age of 84.
