REINERO RUIZ, sólo conocido como Rey Ruiz nació en La Lisa. La Habana, Cuba el 21 de junio de 1966 y es un músico cubano que lleva más de dos décadas interpretando música salsa. Ha estado en los Estados Unidos desde 1992. Ruiz alcanzó fama internacional en América Latina, Europa y entre los fanáticos de la música hispana en Estados Unidos.
Comenzó a tocar la guitarra a una edad temprana y rápidamente se sintió atraído por los sonidos de la música cubana. Comenzó a tocar con bandas locales cuando era un adolescente y finalmente se mudó a Puerto Rico, donde comenzó a hacerse un nombre como músico. Cuando tenía veintitantos años, ya había lanzado varios álbumes y estaba empezando a ganar reconocimiento por su música.
En Cuba llegó a encabezar un espectáculo en el Hotel Habana Libre. (El antiguo Havana Hilton, rebautizado como Habana Libre después de la revolución de Castro).
Rey Ruiz actuó en el conocido grupo de música “Cabaret Tropicana”. Durante una gira de Cabaret Tropicana en República Dominicana, Ruiz desertó, dejando el grupo para unirse a unos amigos en Estados Unidos. Una vez establecido allí, Ruiz comenzó a ganar fama como cantante solista de salsa.

REINERO RUIZ, only known as Rey Ruiz was born in La Lisa. Havana, Cuba on June 21, 1966 ans is a Cuban musician who has been performing salsa music for more than two decades. He has been in the United States since 1992 and has been hailed as the “Elvis of Salsa,” by Miami music critics. Ruiz reached international fame across Latin America, Europe and among Hispanic music fans in the United States.
He began playing guitar at a young age and was quickly drawn to the sounds of Cuban music. He began performing with local bands when he was a teenager and eventually moved to Puerto Rico where he started to make a name for himself as a musician. By the time he was in his twenties, he had already released several albums and was beginning to gain recognition for his music.
Eventually, Ruiz made his way to headlining a show at the Habana Libre Hotel. (The former Havana Hilton, renamed to Havana Libre after Castro’s revolution).
Rey Ruiz performed in the well known “Cabaret Tropicana” music group. During a Cabaret Tropicana tour in the Dominican Republic, Ruiz defected, leaving the group to join some friends in the United States. Once established there, Ruiz began to gain fame as a solo salsa singer.
Ruiz began his U.S. career in the mid-1990s, releasing his first album in 1997. Since then, he has released numerous albums that have been well-received by both critics and fans alike. He has been nominated for several Latin Grammy Awards and is highly regarded in the salsa music scene.
ARTISTIC CAREER
Ruiz has released ten studio albums throughout his career, all of which have been met with critical acclaim. His albums are often described as passionate and energetic, combining traditional Cuban sounds with modern pop sensibilities. Ruiz signed on to a new recording contract which brought him back to his original label Sony/BMG with a highly anticipated album being produced by Cuco Pena, one of Puerto Rico’s premier musical producers.
