SUCEDIÓ EN LA HABANA, CUBA: LA SENSUAL EXHIBICIÓN DE DARLENE “MISS BURBUJA”. PHOTOS
Los que la vieron apenas dieron crédito a sus ojos. Muchas cosas, ciertamente, habían ocurrido durante décadas a lo largo del Paseo del Prado -asesinatos a mansalva, atentados políticos, estafas… hasta el asalto a un banco, que protagonizaron Guarina y “el chino” Prendes- pero aquello superaba cualquier expectativa.
Seguida por una turba de curiosos, que la exaltaba y denostaba a la vez, una mujer en lo mejor de su edad, avanzó desde la calle Ánimas, donde descendió de un taxi, hasta el Parque Central y en su camino llegó incluso a bailar, en el mejor estilo cabaretero, algunos de los compases de La engañadora, el popular chachachá de Enrique Jorrín, que salía a la calle desde la victrola del Wonder Bar, en la esquina de Virtudes. Al llegar a Neptuno, en los alrededores del busto del gran periodista cubano Manuel de la Cruz, la rodeaba ya una multitud considerable. “¡Descarada!”, gritaban algunos. “¡Bárbara!”, opinaban otros y con esa palabra sintetizaban su belleza. Pero todos por igual se la comían con los ojos.
Y es que aquella mujer que tenía la certeza de que ella no era como la engañadora a la que se aludía en la pegajosa melodía del mismo título, se empeñó en demostrarlo cuando tomó la iniciativa de recorrer desnuda, o casi, una de las zonas más populosas de La Habana.
DARLENE “MISS BURBUJA” EN LA HABANA
El 7 de noviembre de 1953, en el Paseo del Prado y la calle Animas, en la capital, al atardecer, ocurrió: Una mujer bajó de un taxi sin más ropaje que un ceñido mono bikini y una capa de agua transparente. Con la mayor naturalidad abrió una sombrilla y ante el asombro general de los que por allí pasaban comenzó a andar por el céntrico y concurrido bulevar.
Pronto se vio rodeada de curiosos. Los puritanos, gritaban: ¡Desvergonzada! ¡Qué descaro! y otros, con mentalidad más joven, se deshacían en galanterías. ¡Bárbara! ¡Sabrosa!. ¡Ave Maríaaaaa! ..
Se cuenta que de una vitrola de un bar cercano se escuchó el cha-cha-chá, “La Engañadora” y la dama de la capa transparente aprovechó para bailar aquel compás con el más impecable estilo cabaretero. Suponemos que lo de la música estaba “arreglado”, aunque esto no está documentado.
Las fotos que in situ tomó el foto reportero Rubén González Muñoz, del periódico Información, de La Habana, la muestran de cuerpo entero. Aquella dama rubia -al menos en apariencia- y cuidadosamente peinada, con abundantes méritos anteriores y posteriores -nada de almohaditas ni de rellenos, como en el célebre chachachá- cubría su generosa anatomía solo con la parte inferior de un ceñido biquini. Todo lo demás lo llevaba a la vista, aunque resguardado por una capa de agua… transparente. Como complemento de tan breve atuendo portaba una sombrilla que abrió en cuanto salió del automóvil frente al Casino Español de La Habana.
Cuando llegó al Parque Central, ya venía escoltada con un escándalo de claxons de autos y un sinnúmero de piropos de los más diversos colores. Aparece el foto-reportero, Rubén González, del diario “Información” quien tomó estas fotografías, que aunque de mala calidad, ilustran esta publicación,
Por el alboroto causado llegó un policía que le preguntó qué hacía así por la calle. Ella, con su más seductora sonrisa le respondió: …”Yo solo quería demostrar que no soy La Engañadora.” El uniformado como no sabía si era una loca o una exhibicionista, decidió llevarla a la estación de policía.
QUIÉN ES “MISS BURBUJAS” EN LA HABANA
Las actuaciones revelaron que se trataba de Virginia Martha Lachima, una bailarina norteamericana conocida en el mundo del burlesco como “Miss Burbujas” y que debutaría próximamente en un cabaret capitalino. Ella había ofrecido un anuncio vivo de su arte en el lugar más concurrido de La Habana.
“Miss Burbujas” ( Darlene Bubbles – Virginia Lachina) fué contratada para actuar en el Cabaret del hotel Sevilla Biltmore, propiedad del ítalo-cubano Amletto Batisti, uno de los principales agentes del juego en casinos de La Habana.
La bailarina Burbujas-Bubbles, en busca de publicidad gratuita, decidió darse una caminata por el Paseo del Prado, precisamente a la altura de la calle Neptuno, los predios de la “Engañadora”, como ya comentamos.
Me comenta también Isel que por tan peculiar paseo fue multada con 200 pesos, aunque otras fuentes aseguran que solo fueron 50. Eso da igual, el “performance” de Miss Burbujas logró su objetivo y sus fotos tuvieron toda la repercusión mediática que ella de seguro esperaba.
En cuanto a Miss Burbujas, desconoce el cronista qué pasó con ella tras su tránsito por la unidad policial de la calle Dragones. Seguramente, se obligada a pagar una multa por el delito de escándalo público. O tal vez la Policía se mostrara compasiva con ella. O alguien, paternalmente intercedió a su favor. De cualquier manera, pagara la multa o no, estamos seguros de que su generoso anuncio repercutió en la promoción de su espectáculo.
De aquella exhibición callejera de “Miss Burbujas” ya casi nadie se acuerda, aunque si perdura el ritmo de la música perdurable del maestro de Enrique Jorrín.

Those who saw her could hardly believe her eyes. Many things, certainly, had happened for decades along the Paseo del Prado – mass murders, political attacks, scams… even the robbery of a bank, carried out by Guarina and “the Chinese” Prendes – but that exceeded any expectations.

And that woman who was certain that she was not like the deceiver referred to in the catchy melody of the same title, insisted on proving it when she took the initiative to walk naked, or almost, through one of the areas. most populous in Havana.
DARLENE “MISS BUBBLE” IN HAVANA

It is said that the cha-cha-chá, “La Engañadora” was heard from a Victrola in a nearby bar and the lady in the transparent cape took the opportunity to dance to that beat with the most impeccable cabaret style. We assume that the music thing was “fixed”, although this is not documented.
The photos of her taken on site by photo reporter Rubén González Muñoz, from the Havana newspaper Información, show her in full body. That blonde lady – at least in appearance – and carefully combed, with abundant anterior and posterior merits – no pillows or padding, as in the famous cha-cha-cha – covered her generous anatomy only with the bottom part of a tight bikini. Everything else was visible, although protected by a layer of… transparent water. As a complement to such a brief outfit, she carried an umbrella that she opened as soon as she got out of the car in front of the Spanish Casino in Havana.
When she arrived at Parque Central, she was already escorted with a scandal of car horns and countless compliments of the most diverse colors. Due to the commotion caused, a police officer arrived and asked her why she was doing that on the street. She, with the most seductive smile of hers, responded: “I just wanted to show that I am not The Deceiver.” The uniformed man, like him, didn’t know if she was crazy or an exhibitionist, so he decided to take her to the police station.
WHO IS “MISS BUBBLES” IN HAVANA
The performances revealed that it was Virginia Martha Lachima, a North American dancer known in the world of burlesque as “Miss Bubbles” and who would soon make her debut in a capital cabaret. She had offered a live advertisement of her art in the busiest place in Havana.
“Miss Burbujas” (Darlene Bubbles – Virginia Lachina) was hired to perform at the Cabaret of the Sevilla Biltmore hotel, owned by the Italian-Cuban Amletto Batisti, one of the main gambling agents in casinos in Havana.

Isel also tells me that for such a peculiar walk she was fined 200 pesos, although other sources claim that it was only 50. That doesn’t matter, Miss Burbujas’ “performance” achieved its objective and her photos had all the media impact that she surely I expected.
As for Miss Burbujas, the chronicler does not know what happened to her after she passed through the police unit on Dragones Street. Surely, she will be forced to pay a fine for the crime of public scandal. Or maybe the police would be compassionate towards her. Or someone paternally interceded on her behalf. Either way, whether she paid the fine or not, we are sure that her generous announcement had an impact on the promotion of her show.
Almost no one remembers that street exhibition of “Miss Burbujas” anymore, although the rhythm of the enduring music of Enrique Jorrín’s maestro endures.
