El cambio significa que quedará revocada una normativa impuesta por la administración de Donald Trump que prohibía a los bancos estadounidenses procesar transacciones asociadas a Cuba a través de entidades ubicadas en terceros países, lo que pudiera dar luz verde a empresas como Western Union a restaurar sus servicios desde sus oficinas alrededor del mundo.
Desde la autorización de empresas en el sector privado en Cuba, en 2021, el número de mipymes supera actualmente las 12 mil. Algunas de ellas están asociadas al sector estatal.
Las iniciativas anunciadas por Washington incluyen también enmiendas a las regulaciones vigentes para incrementar el uso de internet por parte de los ciudadanos cubanos, autorizando servicios tecnológicos, operaciones financieras desde plataformas de pago el línea y uso de aplicaciones que permanecían bloqueadas para los usuarios en la isla.
