Andrés Arturo García Menéndez, conocido profesionalmente como Andy García, es un actor cubanoamericano. Se hizo conocido a finales de los años 1980 y 1990, tras haber aparecido en varias películas exitosas de Hollywood, entre ellas El Padrino: Parte III, Los intocables y Cuando un hombre ama a una mujer. García nació como Andrés Arturo García Menéndez en La Habana, Cuba, con un gemelo siamés muerto en su hombro izquierdo, que luego fue extirpado quirúrgicamente. Es la tercera versión filmada de la novela homónima de 1949 de Edward Streeter. Time elogió a García por su papel cómico y escribió: “García lleva la película hábilmente con su brusca elegancia”.
García apareció en la película de acción Expend4bles como Marsh, un agente de la CIA que también es un agente doble y el principal antagonista de la película.
Vida personal
García conoció a su actual esposa, Marivi Lorido, cuando ambos eran estudiantes en la Universidad Internacional de Florida a mediados de los años 70, cuando se vieron por primera vez en un club nocturno de Miami. La pareja salió durante siete años antes de casarse el 24 de septiembre de 1982. La familia divide su tiempo entre Toluca Lake, Los Ángeles y Key Biscayne, Florida.
La pareja tiene cuatro hijos: Dominik García-Lorido, Daniella, Alessandra y Andrés. Dominik nació el 16 de agosto de 1983 en Miami, Florida. Está casada con Michael Doneger. Daniella nació el 3 de enero de 1988 en Los Ángeles, California. Está casada con el actor Stephen Borrello y la pareja tiene una hija llamada Violette Rose. Alessandra nació el 20 de junio de 1991 en Los Ángeles. El cuarto hijo y único varón, Andrés, nació el 28 de enero de 2002. Andrés se ha convertido en un DJ establecido en Los Ángeles y Miami.

Andrés Arturo García Menéndez, professionally known as Andy García, is a Cuban American actor. He became known in the late 1980s and 1990s, having appeared in several successful Hollywood films, including The Godfather: Part III, The Untouchables, and When a Man Loves a Woman. More recently, he has starred in Ocean’s Eleven and its sequels, Ocean’s Twelve and Ocean’s Thirteen, and The Lost City.
García was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Vincent Mancini in The Godfather Part III.
García was born Andrés Arturo García Menéndez in Havana, Cuba, with a dead conjoined twin on his left shoulder, which was later surgically removed. His mother, Amelie Menéndez, was an English teacher, and his father, René García Núñez, was an avocado farmer and attorney in Cuba, and later owned a fragrance business in the United States. García has an older brother, René. When García was five years old, the family moved to Miami, Florida after the failed Bay of Pigs Invasion. Over a period of several years, they built up a million-dollar perfume company. García was raised as a Roman Catholic and attended Miami Beach Senior High School, where he played on the basketball team. During his last year in high school, he became ill with mononucleosis, which convinced him to pursue a career in acting. He began his acting career taking a drama class with Jay W. Jensen in his senior year at Miami Beach Senior High School.
García began acting at Florida International University, but soon went to Hollywood. He started to perform in very short roles, working part-time as waiter and in a warehouse. His chance arose when he was offered a role as a gang member in the first episode of the popular TV series Hill Street Blues. His solid supporting role in 1985’s The Mean Season alongside Kurt Russell brought García wider visibility, although the film fared poorly at the box office. Director Brian De Palma liked his performance in the 1986 movie 8 Million Ways to Die and engaged him the following year for The Untouchables, which made García a popular Hollywood actor.

In 2022 he starred in the comedy Big Gold Brick. He also starred opposite Gloria Estefan again in the romantic comedy HBO Max film Father of the Bride. Personal life
Garcia met his now wife, Marivi Lorido, when they were both students at Florida International University during the mid-70’s when they first saw each other in a Miami nightclub. The couple dated for seven years before tying the knot on September 24, 1982. The family divides their time between Toluca Lake, Los Angeles and Key Biscayne, Florida.
The couple shares four children: Dominik García-Lorido, Daniella, Alessandra, and Andrés. Dominik was born on August 16, 1983 in Miami, Florida. She is married to Michael Doneger. Daniella was born on January 3, 1988 in Los Angeles, California. She is married to actor, Stephen Borrello and the couple has a daughter named Violette Rose. Alessandra was born on June 20, 1991 in Los Angeles. The fourth child and only son, Andres, was born on January 28, 2002. Andres has gone on to become an established DJ across Los Angeles and Miami. He has kept distaste for the communist regime that has ruled Cuba since the revolution. Following Fidel Castro’s death in November 2016, García criticized his legacy, stating: “It is necessary for me to express the deep sorrow that I feel for all the Cuban people…that have suffered the atrocities and repression caused by Fidel Castro and his totalitarian regime.”
García is Catholic, and a naturalized citizen of the United States.
