La actriz, cantante y presentadora de origen cubano Mayra Gómez Kemp falleció este domingo en España a los 76 años, informó el diario El País.
Mayra Cristina Gómez Martínez Kemp Febles era hija de dos famosos artistas cubanos, Ramiro Gómez Kemp y Velia Martínez.
Entre 1982 y 1988 fue una de las presentadoras más queridas del país, llegando a ser el rostro del popular concurso de televisión español ‘Un, dos, tres… responde otra vez’.
En esta nación, su popularidad creció notablemente en los años 70 y 80, cuando presentó el concurso televisivo Un, dos, tres… responde otra vez, que logró millones de audiencias.
Nacida en La Habana el 14 de febrero de 1948 sufrió un accidente doméstico en su casa de Mijas, Málaga, por el que tuvo que ser hospitalizada. Ella misma confirmó que fue un “susto grande”, pues estuvo en el suelo más de 18 horas sin poder levantarse hasta que recibió ayuda. Fue dada de alta y se recuperaba en su casa, donde falleció repentinamente.
LOS INICIOS DE MAYRA GÓMEZ
De niña, Gómez Kemp salió de Cuba con sus padres en 1959 y nunca regresó a la Isla. La familia vivió primero en Puerto Rico, luego en Venezuela y finalmente se estableció en el sur de Florida. Allí, Gómez Kemp estudió Filosofía y Letras en la Universidad de Tampa y Periodismo en la Universidad de Miami, carrera que finalizó en 1969.
Llegó a España en 1970 y, tras una breve estancia en Barcelona, se trasladó a Madrid, donde realizó doblajes en Radio Madrid y trabajó en la versión teatral del famoso Rocky Horror Picture Show.
En esa década, también presentó La ruleta de la fortuna y Simplemente Mayra, en Antena 3 Televisión. Formó parte, además, del trío musical Acuario, con el que logró éxitos como “Rema, rema, marinero”. Como solista publicó el disco Una dama en 1978, mientras continuaba su carrera con el programa de televisión 625 líneas. Posteriormente presentó Ding Dong y el concurso infantil Sabadabada.
Pero el gran éxito de su carrera llegó cuando empezó a presentar uno de los concursos más importantes de Televisión Española, Un, dos tres… responda otra vez. Así, se convirtió en “la primera mujer del mundo en presentar un concurso de televisión”, recordó siempre, por decisión del director del programa, Chicho Ibáñez Serrador, considerado una de las figuras más importantes de la televisión en España. Su paso por este programa, del que fue imagen entre 1982 y 1988, la convirtió en una de las presentadoras más queridas del país.
En 2009 dejó de participar en programas de televisión debido a un cáncer de lengua del que había sido operada con éxito, y que se debía a que fumaba de forma reiterada desde los 14 años. La agresiva cirugía le dejó muchos problemas para hablar, que superó con largas sesiones de logopedia. Sin embargo, en un emotivo programa de Televisión Española en abril de este año, se despidió de los espectadores y del medio televisivo: “Voy a hacer lo que hizo Napoleón; retirarme a los cuarteles de invierno”, dijo.
En 2014 recibió el Premio Iris a la trayectoria, el máximo galardón de la Academia de las Ciencias y las Artes de Televisión.
Como muestra de su importancia y popularidad en la televisión española, la cadena pública RTVE ha vuelto a emitir a lo largo de este domingo varios programas dedicados a Gómez Kemp, como los especiales dedicados a ella Viaje al centro de la tele y Cómo nos reímos con lo mejor de Un, dos, tres… responderá otra vez.
“Las mujeres tenemos que demostrar que valemos el doble, no tenemos derecho a la mediocridad”, afirmó Gómez Kemp en una entrevista televisiva hace varios años, confirmando con ello no sólo su popularidad, sino también su compromiso.

As a sign of her importance and popularity on Spanish television, the public channel RTVE has re-run several programs dedicated to Gómez Kemp throughout this Sunday, such as the specials dedicated to her Viaje al centro de la tele and Cómo nos reímos con lo mejor de Un, dos, tres… responda otra vez.
“We women have to prove that we are worth twice as much, we have no right to mediocrity,” said Gómez Kemp in a television interview several years ago, thereby confirming not only her popularity, but also her commitment.
