Hay todavia mucho que contar con el recorrido que el famoso escritor norteamericano Ernest Hemingway hizo en su larga estancia en nuestra patria, pero podriamos empezar diciendoles que Hemingway se enamoró de Cuba a primera vista.
El personaje conoció la isla en 1932, al hacer un viaje de pesca. El escritor norteamericano era conocido por su espíritu aventurero, había vivido en Chicago, Milán y París, ciudad de la que después inmortalizaría el lado oscuro con su novela Fiesta en París.
Aunque su necesidad de viajar fue insaciable, Hemingway vivió en Cuba durante casi 25 años.
COMENZANDO NUESTRO VIAJE…
EL HOTEL AMBOS MUNDOS fue el primer lugar que Hemingway tuvo como hogar en Cuba. Y es un hotel en La Habana, Cuba. Construida con forma cuadrada de cinco pisos, tiene un conjunto ecléctico de características de la arquitectura de estilo del siglo XX. Fue construido en 1924 en un solar que anteriormente había sido ocupado por una antigua casa familiar en la esquina de la calle Obispo y Mercaderes (calles Bishop y Merchants) en La Habana Vieja. Es un destino turístico frecuente porque fue el hogar del popular escritor durante siete años en la década de 1930.
Durante siete años los trabajadores y clientes asiduos se acostumbraron a ver al afamado escritor. En la habitación # 511 escribió una de sus mejores novelas, Por quién doblan las campanas. El hotel inaugurado en 1925, conserva la cuenta que el norteamericano tenía en el bar y la icónica habitación 511 es hoy un museo, tal parece que Hemingway aún duerme ahí.
EL FLORIDITA, LA CASA DEL DAIQUIRI
EL FLORIDITA es un histórico restaurante de pescado y bar de cócteles en la parte más antigua de La Habana (La Habana Vieja), Cuba. Se encuentra al final de la calle Obispo (Bishop Street), frente a la calle Monserrate del Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes de La Habana. El establecimiento es famoso por sus daiquiris y por haber sido uno de los lugares favoritos de Ernest Hemingway en La Habana.
El bar ahora cuenta con una estatua de bronce de tamaño natural de Ernest Hemingway colocada en su lugar favorito al final de la barra. En una pequeña placa que cuelga en El Floridita, cuelga la cita firmada de Hemingway: “Mi mojito en la Bodeguita del Medio y mi daiquiri en el Floridita” escribió Hemingway en una de las paredes del conocido restaurante de comida cubana que ha sido visitado por importantes personajes como Gabriel García Márquez y el poeta Pablo Neruda. Deber ir, sin dudas, pues lo más ilustre de la literatura en el continente se ha sentado en el lugar.
El famoso Daiquirí y el nombre del trago proviene de una playa cerca de Santiago de Cuba y de una mina de hierro de la zona.
LA BODEGUITA DEL MEDIO
LA BODEGUITA DEL MEDIO es un restaurante-bar típico de La Habana (Cuba). Es un destino turístico famoso por las personalidades que lo han patrocinado: Salvador Allende, el poeta Pablo Neruda, el artista Josignacio y muchos otros. La Bodeguita presume de ser la cuna del cóctel ‘Mojito’, elaborado en la barra desde su inauguración en 1942, aunque esto es controvertido.
Las salas están llenas de objetos curiosos, marcos, fotografías, así como las paredes cubiertas por firmas de clientes famosos o desconocidos, que relatan el pasado de la isla. “Mi mojito en la Bodeguita del Medio y mi daiquiri en el Floridita” escribió Hemingway en uno de sus muy mencionadas frases del habitual visitador del lugar.
LA FINCA LA VIGIA
FINCA LA VIGIA es una casa en el Barrio San Francisco de Paula en La Habana, Cuba, que una vez fue la residencia de Ernest Hemingway. Al igual que la casa de Key West de Hemingway, ahora es un museo. El edificio fue construido en 1886 por el arquitecto catalán Miguel Pascual y Baguer en una colina a unas 15 millas (24 km) al este de La Habana. Desde la terraza trasera y la torre adyacente se tiene una excelente vista del centro de La Habana.
Hemingway vivió en la casa desde mediados de 1939 hasta 1960, primero la alquiló y luego la compró en diciembre de 1940 después de casarse con Martha Gellhorn, su tercera esposa. Gellhorn, que había venido a Cuba para estar con Hemingway, decidió que no quería vivir en la pequeña habitación que alquilaba en el Hotel Ambos Mundos. There is still much to tell about the journey that the famous American writer Ernest Hemingway made during his long stay in our country, but we could start by telling you that Hemingway fell in love with Cuba at first sight.
The character met the island in 1932, when he went on a fishing trip. The American writer was known for his adventurous spirit, he had lived in Chicago, Milan and Paris, a city whose dark side he would later immortalize with his novel A Party in Paris.

It is a frequent tourist destination because it was the home of the popular writer for seven years in the 1930s. For seven years the workers and regular customers became accustomed to seeing the famous writer. In room # 511 he wrote one of his best novels, For Whom the Bell Tolls. The hotel opened in 1925, preserves the American’s bill at the bar and the iconic room 511 is today a museum, it seems that Hemingway still sleeps there.
EL FLORIDITA, THE HOUSE OF DAIQUIRI
EL FLORIDITA is a historic fish restaurant and cocktail bar in the oldest part of Havana (Old Havana), Cuba. Located at the end of Obispo Street (Bishop Street), across Monserrate from the National Museum of Fine Arts in Havana, the establishment is famous for its daiquiris and for having been one of Ernest Hemingway’s favorite places in Havana.
The bar now features a life-size bronze statue of Ernest Hemingway placed in his favorite spot at the end of the bar. On a small plaque hanging in El Floridita, hangs Hemingway’s signed quote: “My mojito at the Bodeguita del Medio and my daiquiri at the Floridita” Hemingway wrote on one of the walls of the well-known Cuban food restaurant that has been visited by important figures such as Gabriel García Márquez and the poet Pablo Neruda. It is a must-go, without a doubt, since the most illustrious literary figures on the continent have sat there.
The famous Daiquiri and the name of the drink comes from a beach near Santiago de Cuba and an iron mine in the area.

FINCA LA VIGIA is a house in the San Francisco de Paula neighborhood in Havana, Cuba, which was once the residence of Ernest Hemingway. Like Hemingway’s Key West home, it is now a museum. The building was built in 1886 by Catalan architect Miguel Pascual y Baguer on a hill about 15 miles (24 km) east of Havana. From the back terrace and the adjacent tower one has an excellent view of downtown Havana.
Hemingway lived in the house from mid-1939 to 1960, first renting it and then buying it in December 1940 after marrying Martha Gellhorn, his third wife. Gellhorn, who had come to Cuba to be with Hemingway, decided she did not want to live in the small room she was renting at the Hotel Ambos Mundos. She found the property for which Hemingway paid $12,500. The estate at the time consisted of 15 acres (61,000 m2) with a country house.
