Francisco Fabián Céspedes Rodríguez, también conocido como Pancho Céspedes (nacido el 28 de febrero de 1957) es un músico, cantante y compositor cubano nominado al Grammy. Nacido en Santa Clara, Cuba, Céspedes es ciudadano mexicano naturalizado. Es más conocido por su canción de 1998, “Vida Loca”. Saltó a la fama en 1998 con su álbum Alright, melodías que van desde baladas hasta jazz con un toque de bolero.
VIDA TEMPRANA Y CARRERA ARTÍSTICA
Francisco Fabián Céspedes Rodríguez dejó su carrera de medicina para concentrarse en la música. Así, durante varios años, formó parte de algunas agrupaciones cubanas como el grupo Pucho López (con el que visitó España por primera vez a principios de la década de los 90) y la Orquesta Cubana de Música Moderna, agrupación que cantaba tanto temas de autoría como de “feeling” -un movimiento musical surgido en Cuba, que es una mezcla de jazz y bolero- que se presentaban a lo largo del país, para finalmente llegar a México donde decide iniciar una carrera en la música.
En 1992, cuando Luis Miguel se encontraba seleccionando los temas que formarían parte de “Aries”, decidió incluir la canción escrita por Francisco Céspedes titulada “Pensando en ti”, una de las canciones más importantes de ese álbum, iniciando así su primera etapa en la música como compositor. Otro tema de Francisco Céspedes cantado por Luis Miguel en 1996 fue: “Lo que tú dejas”, este último fue parte del álbum “Nada es igual”.
Participó como solista en el Festival de Viña del Mar de 1997, representando a México con “Te hablo”, canción que había escrito en Cuba años atrás y que obtuvo el segundo lugar en el festival latinoamericano de esa misma fama.
Es justo después del éxito del festival, que Francisco Céspedes en 1997 graba su primer disco como solista titulado “Vida loca”. En él mostraba todas las vivencias que había tenido en los últimos años, con un álbum lleno de ternura y amor que se convirtió en uno de los más exitosos en México, España, Estados Unidos, Perú y Chile.
RECORRIDO MUNDIAL
Durante 1998 y 1999, Francisco Céspedes realizó una extensa gira visitando los países más importantes de Latinoamérica y España, país en el que se presenta varias veces durante el año debido al enorme éxito de “Vida loca”, álbum ganador del Quíntuple Disco de Platino en este país, así como 3 Premios Amigo como “Mejor Artista Nuevo Latino”, “Mejor Solista Masculino Latino” y “Mejor Álbum Pop Latino” y un Premio Wave como “Revelación Latina 1998”, además realizó un dueto con Presets para el tema “No One Like You”. En 1999, lanzó su álbum “¿Dónde está la vida?” el cual fue Disco de Platino por ventas en México y en el extranjero alcanzó un gran éxito debido a que la salida fácil “¿Dónde está la vida?” fue emitida en la telenovela mexicana “La casa de la playa”.
Entre marzo y septiembre de 2002, grabó “Oh Corazón”, su tercer álbum de estudio, en la Ciudad de México.
En 2004, Francisco Céspedes saca su gran éxito, “Dicen el alma / Greatest Hits” donde incluye dos canciones nuevas: “Dicen el alma” y su primer sencillo “Lloviendo ausencia”. Además como bonus incluye duetos de “Torbellino” con Ana Belén y “Vida loca” con Milton Nascimento.
En 2005 Francisco Céspedes lanza su nuevo álbum titulado “Autorretrato”. El subtítulo Okan Eyo, que en yoruba significa “cosas del corazón, problemas del corazón”, resume la esencia del álbum, que incluye versiones de Bésame Mucho, entre otras.
En 2006, Francisco Céspedes regresa con un nuevo álbum tributo a Ignacio Villa, conocido como “Bola de Nieve”.
Algunas de las canciones que hacen único a este material son “Oh Amor”, “Vete De Mi”, “No Puedo Ser Feliz”, “Drume Bold”, “Adiós Felicidad”.
Este nuevo material de Francisco Céspedes también incluye un DVD con un documental que muestra el proceso de grabación de un disco de esta generación y que actualmente alberga a muchos artistas cubanos que viven fuera de la isla.
Con la venia de Ball obtuvo una nominación al Grammy en el 2007, en septiembre del mismo año este material se hace merecedor del premio Orgullo Latino.
Para el 23 de junio de 2009 salió al mercado el material llamado “Recuerda…” con la colaboración de Gonzalo Rubalcaba tocando el piano, Ignacio Berroa en la batería, Armando Gola en el bajo y Richard Galliano en el acordeón, entre otros músicos. En el 2009, pone su huella en el Paseo de la Fama de México y obtiene la nominación OYE como Mejor Artista Masculino del año y con este álbum “Recuerdas…” es nominado a los premios GRAMMY y LATIN GRAMMY.

Francisco Fabián Céspedes Rodríguez, also known as Pancho Céspedes (born 28 February 1957) is a Grammy-nominated Cuban musician, singer and songwriter. Born in Santa Clara, Cuba, Céspedes is a naturalized Mexican citizen. He is most known for his 1998 song, “Vida Loca”. He rose to fame in 1998 with her album Alright, tunes ranging from ballads to jazz with a touch of bolero.
EARLY LIFE & ARTISTIC CAREER
Francisco Fabian Céspedes Rodriguez left his medical career to concentrate on music.
