UN ADIOS A LUCHO GATICA, INTERNACIONALMENTE “EL REY DEL BOLERO”.
El intérprete, con más de 70 años de carrera, falleció acompañado de sus seres queridos y a causa de un deterioro generalizado producto de su avanzada edad, publicó el diario El Mundo.
“Yo no le tengo miedo a la muerte, soy muy feliz”, dijo el artista en una entrevista con motivo de la presentación de su último disco, Historia de un amor (2013), donde hizo dúos con la italiana Laura Pausini, la luso-canadiense Nelly Furtado y el canadiense Michael Bubblé, entre otros.
Nacido en Rancagua, en el sur de Chile, el 11 de agosto de 1928, Gatica adquirió fama internacional en la década de 1950 por su interpretación de melodías románticas como “Piel Canela”, “Contigo en la distancia” y “Bésame mucho”, que lo llevaron a ser conocido internacionalmente como “El rey del bolero”.

El propio Lucho reconoció que fueron las canciones del filin cubano las que lo hicieron popular y recordaba con cariño las obras de José Antonio Méndez, Tania Castellanos o César Portillo de la Luz.
Para el músico y pianista chileno Valentín Trujillo, “Lucho era la versión masculina del estilo creado por Olga Guillot” y consideró que sus grandes éxitos son todas canciones que también cantaba Guillot.
Lucho Gatica era admirado por la cantante cubana, que compartió con él en Chile y a quien consideraba “un buen amigo”.
“A mi papá lo quieren en Cuba, lo quieren en España, lo quieren en Brasil, en México y en tantos países, pero por supuesto que este cariño chileno es diferente y especial para él”, dijo su hija mexicana Juanita Gatica Cortés, citada por la oficial Prensa Latina.
Ganador del Grammy Latino a la Excelencia en 2007, Lucho Gatica fue incluido en el Paseo de la Fama de Hollywood en enero de 2008, con la estrella número 2354. Tuvo tres matrimonios, el más reciente con Leslie Deeb. Dejó siete hijos y 11 nietos.
Para consolidar su fama también en el mercado anglófono, llegó a alternar en EEUU con Elvis Presley y Nat King Cole.
La municipalidad chilena de Rancagua decretó tres días de duelo comunal por el deceso del cantante.

The interpreter, with more than 70 years of career, died accompanied by his loved ones and because of a generalized deterioration due to his advanced age, the newspaper El Mundo published.
“I’m not afraid of death, I’m very happy,” said the artist in an interview on the occasion of the presentation of his latest album, Historia de un amor (2013), where he made duets with the Italian Laura Pausini, the Portuguese -canadiense Nelly Furtado and the Canadian Michael Bubble, among others.
Born in Rancagua, in southern Chile, on August 11, 1928, Gatica acquired international fame in the 1950s for her performance of romantic melodies such as “Canela Skin”, “Contigo en la distancia” and “Bésame mucho”, that led him to be known internationally as “The King of the Bolero”.
Lucho himself acknowledged that it was the songs of the Cuban filin that made him popular and he remembered fondly the works of José Antonio Méndez, Tania Castellanos or César Portillo de la Luz.
For the Chilean musician and pianist Valentín Trujillo, “Lucho was the masculine version of the style created by Olga Guillot” and considered that his greatest hits are all songs that Guillot also sang.
Lucho Gatica was admired by the Cuban singer, who shared with him in Chile and whom he considered “a good friend”.
“They want my father in Cuba, they want him in Spain, they want him in Brazil, in Mexico and in so many countries, but of course this Chilean affection is different and special for him,” said his Mexican daughter Juanita Gatica Cortés, quoted by the Prensa Latina official.
Winner of the Latin Grammy Award for Excellence in 2007, Lucho Gatica was included in the Hollywood Walk of Fame in January 2008, with the number 2354. He had three marriages, most recently with Leslie Deeb. He left seven children and 11 grandchildren.

The Chilean municipality of Rancagua decreed three days of communal mourning for the death of the singer.
