LA HABANA, Cuba. – “La aplicación de la babosa”, como se conoce en Cuba, se ha convertido en la nueva alternativa para abaratar los elevados precios de Internet impuestos por la Empresa de las Telecomunicaciones de Cuba (ETECSA).

Su nombre real en la tienda de Google Play es VPN over DNS tunnel:SlowDns, y su función consiste en realizar una conexión hacia Internet utilizando servidores DNS. En su página oficial sus desarrolladores la definen como “protector de su privacidad en línea que mantiene su lugar privado con el fin de proporcionar una navegación segura”, pero los cubanos la han usado con el fin de obtener acceso gratuito a Internet.

“Me va de maravilla con esta aplicación, llego al parque (zona Wifi) y la abro. Cuando me avisa que se conectó abro el Messenger de Facebook y comienzo a chatear con mis familiares en el exterior. No se puede usar para mucho más que eso, el IMO (programa para realizar teleconferencias) por ejemplo, no funciona”, dijo a CubaNet en una joven en un parque Wifi que pidió no revelar su identidad por temor “a lo que podría pasarme”.

SlowDns burla el portal cautivo de ETECSA y crea un túnel hacia internet por medio de peticiones DNS. La aplicación rompe los protocolos de seguridad de la red nacional y accede a Internet libre de costo.
