Un meteorito se estrelló al oeste de Cuba el viernes y arrojó numerosas piezas de varios tamaños a su alrededor en varias ciudades de la provincia de Pinar del Río, informó el periódico estatal Granma.
Un meteorito golpeó con una “fuerte explosión” en la ciudad de Viñales, dijo Granma. Investigadores de varias agencias cubanas, incluido el Instituto de Geofísica y Astronomía, confirmaron los ataques de meteoritos, informó Granma. No hubo reporte de heridos.

En 2013, una explosión de un meteorito sacudió la región de los Urales de Rusia. Los edificios perdidos de ventanas y paredes se derrumbaron cuando la onda sónica de la explosión resonó en la región. Más de 1.000 personas resultaron heridas, incluidos más de 200 niños, según informes de prensa. Muchos de ellos fueron golpeados por cristales voladores.

A meteor broke apart over western Cuba on Friday, hurtling numerous pieces of various sizes to the ground in several towns in Pinar del Rio province, the state-run Granma newspaper reported.
One meteorite landed with a “loud explosion” in the town of Viñales, Granma said. Researchers from several Cuban agencies, including the Institute of Geophysics and Astronomy, confirmed the meteorite strikes, Granma reported. There were no reports of any injuries.
The astronomical event lasted about 10 minutes and did not cause major material damage. The fireball fragmented into many pieces that ended up in the towns of Los Jazmines, Dos Hermanas, Palmarito, El Cuajaní and in the vicinity of the Viñales. Being larger – 11 cm in length – the one found in Palmarito, which left a crater on the surface.
The US National Weather Service began tweeting about the event Friday afternoon, eventually saying that radar may have detected the meteor at 1:21 p.m. ET at an altitude of about 26,000 feet. According to the investigations, it was concluded that the meteorite is of litpeth opetreo type and contains iron, nickel and magnesium silicate.
The service said on Twitter earlier Friday it received reports about a meteor being seen in the sky across the Florida Keys.

In 2013, a meteor blast shook Russia’s Urals region. Buildings lost windows and walls tumbled as the sonic wave from the explosion reverberated through the region. More than 1,000 people were injured, including more than 200 children, according to news reports. Many of them were hit by flying glass.
