John Bolton, asesor de seguridad nacional de la Casa Blanca, lanzó una advertencia a las aseguradoras de barcos sobre las consecuencias de ignorar la orden del líder de la Asamblea Nacional de Venezuela, Juan Guaidó, que suspende las exportaciones de petróleo a Cuba.
“La Asamblea Nacional venezolana ha decretado la suspensión de las exportaciones de crudo a Cuba tras el colapso de la red eléctrica nacional. Las compañías de seguros y los portadores de banderas que facilitan estos envíos a Cuba están ahora en aviso”, escribió Bolton en su cuenta oficial en Twitter (@AmbJohnBolton).
El lunes, al defender las medidas ante el Parlamento, el presidente interino abogó por el “ahorro de combustible” en un momento en que Venezuela enfrenta un recrudecimiento de la carestía de agua, alimentos y acceso a la salud a raíz del apagón más largo de su historia.
“Se ordena la inmediata suspensión del suministro de crudo, combustible y sus derivados” a Cuba, dijo Guaidó, y convocó manifestaciones en todo el país para este martes en protesta contra Maduro, a quien culpa del colapso eléctrico por la “desidia y la corrupción” de su régimen “usurpador”. En su discurso, el líder opositor pidió ayuda a la comunidad internacional para hacer efectiva su medida.
“Hemos decretado no más envío de petróleo a Cuba, no se van a seguir chuleando el dinero del pueblo de Venezuela (…), además no solamente lo decretamos, sino que solicitamos la cooperación internacional para hacer efectiva esta medida”, dijo Guaidó en medio de la sesión legislativa de emergencia ante el apagón que sufre el país.
Más tarde, Guaidó anunció en Twitter que ya estaban “obteniendo” la “cooperación internacional” necesaria para “suspender el envío de petróleo a Cuba”.
“La concentración de nuestros recursos en solventar la crisis obliga a suspender el envío de petróleo a Cuba. Solicitamos la cooperación internacional para hacer efectiva esta medida, y ya la estamos obteniendo”, escribió Guaidó.
Venezuela suministra petróleo a su principal aliado regional a precios preferenciales y a cambio de servicios médicos, como parte de acuerdos firmados por el fallecido presidente Hugo Chávez (1999-2013).
La Habana ha dependido durante mucho tiempo de la nación petrolera sudamericana, que ha cubierto alrededor de un 70% de sus necesidades de combustible. Pero los envíos del aliado han estado disminuyendo desde 2014.
El suministro alcanzó los 90.000 barriles diarios, pero se estima que esa cifra ha caído un 40% por la crisis económica y política en Venezuela, que ha mermado su capacidad de producción de 3.200.000 barriles diarios en 2008 a cerca de un millón actualmente, precisó la AFP.

John Bolton, national security adviser to the White House, issued a warning to ship insurers about the consequences of ignoring the order of the leader of the National Assembly of Venezuela, Juan Guaidó, which suspends oil exports to Cuba.
“The Venezuelan National Assembly has decreed the suspension of oil exports to Cuba after the collapse of the national electricity grid, insurance companies and flag bearers who facilitate these shipments to Cuba are now on notice,” Bolton wrote in his report. On Monday, defending the measures before Parliament, the interim president called for “fuel savings” at a time when Venezuela faces a worsening of the shortage of water, food and access to health in the wake of the longest blackout of his story.
“The immediate suspension of the supply of crude oil, fuel and its derivatives is ordered” to Cuba, said Guaidó, and summoned demonstrations throughout the country for this Tuesday in protest against Maduro, whom he blames for the electric collapse due to “apathy and corruption “of his” usurping “regime. In his speech, the opposition leader asked for help from the international community to make his measure effective.

Venezuela supplies oil to its main regional ally at preferential prices and in exchange for medical services, as part of agreements signed by the late President Hugo Chávez (1999-2013).
Havana has long depended on the South American oil nation, which has covered about 70% of its fuel needs. But the ally’s shipments have been declining since 2014.
The supply reached 90,000 barrels per day, but it is estimated that this figure has fallen by 40% due to the economic and political crisis in Venezuela, which has reduced its production capacity from 3,200,000 barrels per day in 2008 to close to one million at present, said the AFP.
