El béisbol fue introducido en Cuba en la década de 1860 por estudiantes cubanos que regresaban de colegios en los Estados Unidos y marineros estadounidenses que trabajaban en el país. Ese período constituyó una época importante de nuestro béisbol. Muchas de las estrellas que conmovieron en más de una ocasión a todo un pueblo con sus victorias para Cuba en el plano internacional, fueron a nutrir las filas del profesionalismo, que con ellos recibió lo que pudiéramos llamar una inyección milagrosa.
