En la tradición griega, al igual que en la de los países iberoamericanos, incluyendo a Cuba, el martes 13 es considerado un día de mala suerte, tal como sucede con el viernes 13 entre las naciones anglosajonas o con el viernes 17 en Italia.

Hay que decir que la denominación de este día de la semana proviene del nombre del misterioso vecino de La Tierra, el famoso Marte, planeta que en la Edad Media era llamado “el pequeño maléfico” y significa voluntad, energía, tensión y agresividad, de ahí su consagración al dios de la guerra, Ares en la mitología griega.

Por su parte el número 13 fue considerado desde la antigüedad de mal augurio ya que en la Última Cena, 13 eran los comensales: los doce apóstoles y Cristo; la Cábala enumera a 13 espíritus malignos; mientras que el capítulo 13 del Apocalipsis bíblico, corresponde al anticristo y a la bestia. Según el mito un martes 13 los hombres perdieron la comunicación entre ellos al hablar lenguas diferentes en la Torre de Babel.

Por esos y otros motivos se dice que el martes unido al número 13 trae mala suerte, al igual que el año bisiesto, aunque no esté probado científicamente. Para algunos el bisiesto es un año con 366 martes 13.

Ya en el siglo XXI esta y otras supersticiones van perdiendo terreno, aunque los agoreros de la mala suerte ajena utilicen también internet para hacer sus predicciones, y todavía millones de personas consulten su horóscopo para actuar en consecuencia.

Los edificios los siguen construyendo sin el número 13, y por supuesto tampoco los ascensores lo tienen. Muchas personas permanecen en casa por si acaso, se cancelan viajes, bodas, bautizos, conciertos. Como nadie se sentaría en un asiento con el 13 en muchas líneas áreas se obvia ese número.

Por otro lado también hay muchas personas que consideran al 13 de buena suerte y en el día correspondiente hacen apuestas a ese número en juegos de azar, carreras hípicas, caninas y automovilísticas. Además los que nacieron en un día similar o cumplen 13 años deben estar al margen de mitos y leyendas.

En este día 13 recuerden el dicho popular: “martes 13, ni te cases ni te embarques, ni de los tuyos te apartes”.
