Jorge Perugorria (también conocido como “Pichi”) nació el 13 de agosto de 1965 es un actor y cineasta cubano.

Es bien conocido por su parte como Diego en fresa y chocolate (título original en español Fresa y Chocolate (codirigido por Tomás Gutiérrez Alea y Juan Carlos Tabío). Recientemente actuó en el Che de Steven Soderbergh, con Benicio del Toro. vive en Santa Fe, un barrio a las afueras de La Habana, con su esposa Elsa María Lafuente de la Paz “Elbita” y sus cuatro hijos Andros, Anthuan, Adán y Amen Perugorría.

Perrugorria estudió ingeniería civil hasta que se dirigió al teatro. Interpretó a Shakespeare con la compañía Olga Alonso y protagonizó The Glass Menagerie con la compañía Ritan Mountaineer. A principios de la década de 1990, Perugorria ayudó a fundar el Teatro Público de La Habana, que comenzó con The Maids de Jean Genet. En esta obra, Perugorria actuó la parte difícil de Clara, trabajando en una dimensión gestual real para este personaje femenino. Y eso le llevó a su primera oportunidad en el cine.

Jorge Perrugorría vive en la piel de Mario Conde, el teniente investigador que protagoniza la miniserie televisiva “Cuatro estaciones en La Habana”, presentadas en la television mundial.

“Hay como 60 películas entre una y otra”, afirmó entre risas el actor, quien considera ha “tenido la suerte”, pese a mantenerse vinculado al cine cubano, de trabajar en Europa y en casi todos los países de Latinoamérica.

Ambos personajes (en Fresa y Chocolate), recuerda, están basados en obras de la literatura cubana. “Entonces son dos grandes retos”, admite al asegurar que debe entonces “complacer a los lectores” y “a los que van a ver la película”.

Sobre la producción en Cuba, señaló, en tono de autocrítica, que todavía no está “a la altura del pasado ese glorioso” del cine que hacían directores como Tomás Gutiérrez Alea (Titón), Humberto Solás y Santiago Álvarez.

“Hay mucha gente joven con entusiasmo y con ganas, pero tiene que pasar algo, están los jóvenes luchando por crear una nueva ley de cine en Cuba y quizás esa sea la solución para de nuevo encontrar esa energía que había en esa época (Fresa y Chocolate)”, añadió Perugorría, y opinó que la cinematografía latinoamericana ha crecido en producción, pero siguen teniendo la distribución como un problema a vencer.

Perrugorria studied civil engineering until he turned to theater. He played Shakespeare with the Olga Alonso troupe, and starred in The Glass Menagerie with the Ritan Mountaineer troupe. In the early 1990s, Perugorria helped found Havana’s Public Theatre, which started with Jean Genet’s The Maids.
