La Capital de la nación Cubana, La Habana, es una historia de leyenda y hechizo, de encanto, de viejos y nuevos monumentos, de estatuas famosas que recrean la mirada del caminante atento y divertido que recorren sus estrechas calles donde cada figura de bronce y mármol tiene historia propia; como diría nuestro Federico García Lorca, “las estatuas de mi Habana tienen duende y andan de traviesas por toda mi ciudad”.

Estas no solo se limitan a personalidades locales sino que han abarcado figuras de diversas nacionalidades y profesiones, desde músicos y escritores hasta locos maravillosos. Como características pueden mencionarse las de ser a tamaño natural, tener poses naturales cual si estuvieran casualmente posicionados esperando por algún interlocutor, y ser lo más apegadas posibles al modelo real.

El Caballero de París
Desde Monsieur de Paris hasta John Lennon, aquel músico del cuarteto de Liverpool hoy sentado con piernas cruzadas en un banco de la calle 17 esquina a 6ª en el Vedado habanero, las estatuas han ocupado cada espacio turístico en la “Nueva Habana” que Eusebio Leal ha regado con verdadero escrutinio histórico en mi ciudad capital y sus alrededores para los turistas que visitan ésta cada año. Su estatua, producción artística del escultor Villa Soberón, es creada para la bella Habana de mis recuerdos.

Estatua de Ernest Hemingway
De todos los escritores norteamericanos del siglo XX ninguno está más asociado a Cuba que Ernest Hemingway. Figura mítica, un personaje de novela él mismo, escogió La Habana para vivir casi hasta su muerte. Es por ello que la ciudad está llena de recuerdos suyos, incluida su casa en la Finca Vigía. Pero si algún otro sitio está vinculado a la vida del escritor sin dudas es el restaurante bar El Floridita.

Strauss, autor de uno de los más famosos vals de todos los tiempos, Danubio Azul, en la calle Línea y G; la estatua de don Quijote en la calle 23 y J; otro famoso de todos los tiempos, la figura de Hasecura Trunenaga, primer samurai japonés que visitara Cuba, tiene la suya en la Avenida del Puerto, más recientemente la de la Madre Teresa de Calcuta en el Jardín del antiguo Convento de San Francisco de Asís, ahora una sala de conciertos y museo, en La Habana Vieja.

Estatua de Federico Chopin
En el 2010 fue inaugurada en la Plaza de San Francisco de Asís una estatua dedicada a Federico Chopin. Formaba parte este acto de los festejos realizados en todo el mundo en honor al pianista y compositor polaco en su bicentenario. En ella Chopin están sentado con un brazo reclinado sobre el banco, en actitud pensativa y un poco taciturna, muy propia de su espíritu romántico.

El ultramarino poblado de Guanabacoa ha dado al país grandes figuras del arte, entre ellas una de las más carismáticas es Ignacio Villa Fernández más conocido por «Bola de Nieve». Nacido en 1911 en una familia humilde, desde pequeño se inclinó por la música, específicamente el piano, mostrando grandes aptitudes también para la composición y el canto. Su personalidad y su forma de interpretar la música, especie de showman e improvisador, lo ganarían para el recuerdo y la admiración de su pueblo.

Tambien estan el Monumento a José Martí en el Parque Central, Monumento al General Máximo Gómez, Monumento a Carlos Manuel de Céspedes en la Plaza de Armas, La Giraldilla, símbolo de la Habana, uno de los símbolos más representativos de la ciudad de La Habana y el más antiguo.
El Cristo de La Habana, desde cualquier lugar de la Habana Vieja se puede al otro lado de la bahía una solemne estatua que representa a Jesús de Nazaret, Estatua del Sancho de la Habana, La Fuente de la India, Estatua de Cecilia Valdes, Estatua de Simon Bolivar, Estatua de Hasekura Tsunenaga, Monumento a los estudiantes de medicina, Monumento a José de la Luz y Caballero, uno de los fundadores de la nacionalidad cubana, Monumento a las Victimas del US Maine, Monumento a Carlos J. Finlay, Monumento a Ataturk, La Fuente de Neptuno, Monumento a Antonio Gades, entre muchos otros que olvida nuestra Memoria.

Esta es la cruda historia de un país donde monumentos y estatuas son erigidas a famosos personajes, hasta animales (como Ubre Blanca), para servir de entretenimiento, un lugar de esparcimiento turístico de aquellos a quienes no les interesa conocer o quizás se empeñen en olvidar la trágica realidad de la Cuba actual. LA HAVANA, CUBA, A CITY OF STATUES AND MONUMENTS.

The Capital of the Cuban nation, Havana, is a story of legend and spell, of charm, of old and new monuments, of famous statues that recreate the look of the attentive and fun walker who travel its narrow streets where each bronze figure and Marble has its own history; as our Federico García Lorca would say, “the statues of my Havana have a goblin and go naughty all over my city.”

These are not only limited to local personalities but have encompassed figures of various nationalities and professions, from musicians and writers to wonderful crazy people.
