Fara García Callava, mas conocida artisticamente como Farah Maria o por sus admiradores como la ‘Gacela de Cuba’ nació en la Habana el 7 de Diciembre de 1944 y fue una de las cantantes mas populares de los años 70 y 80, con variados premios en distintos festivales internacionales
Realizó estudios de canto, danza y expresión corporal. A los 15 años integró el cuerpo de modelos del cabaret del Hotel Capri, con el dúo Las Tropicales, y en la década del 60 formó parte del popular cuarteto vocal “Los Meme”, junto a Héctor Téllez y Miguel Ángel Piña, donde sustituye a Moraima Secada. Con este grupo es que Farah se da a conocer nacionalmente y alcanza relevancia por su voz y presencia escénica dentro de la agrupación, aspecto que caracterizó siempre a este cuarteto, en el que cada miembro alcanzaba su propio estilo como solista, sin dejar de ser parte de la propia imagen del grupo.
En 1969 comenzó a cantar como solista vocalista, caracterizándose desde entonces por combinar su interpretación vocal con gestos y desplazamientos de carácter danzario y un excelente movimiento escénico. Incluye en su repertorio sones, guarachas y fundamentalmente canciones románticas, colocando varios temas en la preferencia nacional, como fue el caso de “Y yo me muero sin ti”, de Jorge Estadella, y “Te quiero tanto amor” del cantante y compositor Alfredo Martínez.
El público ha disfrutado en su forma peculiar de interpretar el Tango “Adiós muchachos”, o un buen Son como “La negra Tomasa”, o en sus versiones muy personales de “La flor de la canela” , “El pajaro Chogui”, “Un cuento”, con el que fue premiada internacionalmente, o su sabrosura en el Cha Cha Chá, del maestro Enrique Jorrín, en el “Alardoso”, o en su popularísimo “Tiburón”, hasta incursionar en la obra de Silvio Rodríguez con sus excelentes versiones de “El mayor” y “El día feliz que está llegando”.
Para ella han compuesto canciones maestros como Adolfo Guzmán, Juan Almeida, Meme Solís, Silvio Rodríguez, Mario AguirreJuan Pablo Torres, Eddy Gaytán, Barrerita. Compartió escenario en el Gran Teatro de La Habana “García Lorca”con Josephine Baker y Bola de Nieve.
Sus recitales en el teatro Amadeo Roldán, o sus presentaciones en las principales pistas nocturnas de la capital, siempre serán bien recordadas por aquellos que la han admirado y seguido de cerca.
Ha representado a Cuba en numerosos eventos, festivales y concursos nacionales como el del Creador Musical y el “Adolfo Guzmán”; programas de la radio y la televisión, producciones de cabaret y recitales en teatros y salas de concierto. Como invitada especial en festivales tan importantes como el de “Melodías Amigas” en la desaparecida Unión Soviética, el de “Viña del mar” en Chile, y en Benidorn, España, entre otros.
Ha realizado giras artísticas por Italia, México, Panamá, Colombia y España, entre otros países.
España, donde trabaja y reside hace un par de décadas, ha sido otro escenario de éxitos; ha compartido con artistas como Carlos Cano, Caco Senante, Enrique Morente, Pepe Habichuela, Miguel Ríos, Joaquín Sabina, y Pablo Milanés; ha participado como invitada en diferentes conciertos y ha trabajado en la radio, la televisión y el teatro, siendo memorables sus actuaciones, dentro de la Red de Teatro de Extremadura, en Badajoz (Teatro López de Ayala), Cáceres (Gran Teatro)
COMO ACTRIZ.
En la década de los años setenta tuvo la oportunidad de filmar junto a Enrique Santiesteban, “El jinete sin cabezas”, en Checoslovaquia, y en los ochenta protagonizó junto al cantante Alfredo Rodríguez una comedia musical en el Teatro Carlos Marx “Lola a la pelota”, donde se pudo desdoblar como comediante musical.Recientemente filmó como actriz invitada Verde verde, a las ódenes del cineasta Enrique Pineda Barnet, junto al reconocido actor Héctor Noas.
DISCOGRAFIAS.
Posee en su haber discográfico más de 500 canciones grabadas en Cuba. Ha grabado cuatro largas duración, uno de ellos dedicado a la música del compositor René Barreras, y el más reciente dedicado al son y a obras antológicas de la vieja trova cubana.
Sus dos últimos discos fueron producidos en España: “Qué Manera de Quererte”, de música cubana, el primero, y una recopilación de los mejores boleros del compositor español Maestro García Morcillo, el segundo, “Farah María canta al bolero español”.
Algunos de sus temas interpretados se recuerdan: Adiós muchachos; Al verme solo cruzar entre la gente; Ámame y no pienses mal; Canción de todos los días; Con juventud y experiencia; De amor ya no se muere; De esa gente; El día feliz que está llegando; El recuerdo de aquel largo viaje y muchos otros inolvidables.

Fara García Callava, better known artistically as Farah Maria or by her fans as the ‘Gazelle of Cuba’ was born in Havana on December 7, 1944, and was one of the most popular singers of the 70s and 80s, with various awards in different international festivals
She studied singing, dance and body expression. At age 15 she joined the model body of the Hotel Capri cabaret, with the Las Tropicales duo, and in the 60s she was part of the popular vocal quartet “Los Meme”, along with Héctor Téllez and Miguel Ángel Piña, where she replaces Dried Moraima.
