GUTIERREZ MENOYO to be buried in family pantheon in Havana * Gutiérrez Menoyo será enterrado en panteón familiar en La Habana.The remains of the former commander Eloy Gutierrez Menoyo, one of the historical figures of the Cuban revolution, will be cremated and his ashes deposited on Sunday at the family plot in the Colon Cemetery in Havana amid the most hermetic silence of the mainstream media.
Menoyo’s body was veiled from noon on Friday in the central funeral Calzada and K, in the neighborhood of Vedado, where family and friends appeared. No senior figure; government attended the funeral.
Menoyo died at dawn yesterday in Almejeiras Brothers Hospital, the victim of an aneurysm at age 77.
Flor Esther Torres Sanabria, girlfriend of Menoyo confirmed that fulfilling his last wishes, the body will be cremated former guerrilla Saturday.

Sources close to the family told that Menoyo CaféFuerte wanted to be buried in the family vault in the Colón Cemetery. His brother Carlos Gutierrez Menoyo, who died in the assault on the Presidential Palace on March 13, 1957 is buried in the mausoleum of the martyrs of that action, erected in the cemetery in 1982.
After his surprise return to Havana in August 2003. Menon had expressed his wish that the remains of Carlos were in the family vault.
The Cuban press has not made mention of his death.
Patricia Gutierrez, his eldest daughter lives in Puerto Rico, is in Havana to attend the funeral.
Menoyo was diagnosed with two aneurysms in May 2011. Since then his health situation worsened irreversibly.
Patricia then traveled to Cuba with their children, grandchildren Menoyo-for they knew the island and share a family with sick grandfather.
No Cuban citizenship
Despite his repeated requests to the Cuban authorities never legalized their status in the country nor ratified their Cuban citizenship.
“I was forced to leave Cuba with Cuban passport on December 21, 1986, though his Spanish passport, but now I say there are documents of citizenship; Cuban ia” Menon recalled in an interview with Radio Netherland late of 2011.
“My father was one of the most courageous warrior and sweetest I’ve ever known … He died where he wanted to die and did opposition which had to do it,” said Patricia Gutierrez.
After leaving Cuba by Fidel Castro discrepancies, in 1961, returned in an armed expedition three years later and was captured. He aplició a sentence of capital punishment, but commuted to 30 years in prison.
He was released after 22 years in prison in 1986, through the efforts of the then Spanish president Felipe González. In Miami founded the Cuban Change in 1992 and returned to Cuba as an exile in 1995, when Fidel Castro was received only once.
In Miami resident his former wife, Gladys, and three sons from that marriage.

Gutiérrez Menoyo será enterrado en panteón familiar en La Habana
Los restos del ex comandante Eloy Gutiérrez Menoyo, una de las figuras históricas de la revolución cubana, serán cremados y sus cenizas depositadas este domingo en el panteón familiar en el Cementerio de Colón en La Habana en medio del más hermético silencio de los medios oficiales.
El cadáver de Menoyo fue velado desde el mediodía del viernes en la céntrica funeraria de Calzada y K, en el barrio del Vedado, adonde comparecieron familiares y amigos. Ninguna figura de alto rango de; gobierno asistió al funeral.
Menoyo falleció en la madrugada de ayer en el Hospital Hermanos Amejeiras, víctima de un aneurisma, a los 77 años.
Flor Esther Torres Sanabria, compañera sentimental de Menoyo, confirmó que cumpliendo su última voluntad, el cuerpo del ex guerrillero será cremado este sábado.
Ultima voluntad
Fuentes cercanas a la familia dijeron a CaféFuerte que Menoyo quería ser sepultado en el panteón familiar en la Necrópolis de Colón. Su hermano Carlos Gutiérrez Menoyo, fallecido en el asalto al Palacio Presidencial el 13 de marzo de 1957 está enterrado en el mausoleo a los mártires de esa acción, levantado en ese cementerio en 1982.
Tras su regreso sorpresivo a La Habana, en agosto del 2003. Menoyo había manifestado su voluntad de que los restos de Carlos estuvieran en el panteón de la familia.
La prensa oficial cubana no ha hecho mención a su muerte.
Patricia Gutiérrez, su hija mayor residente en Puerto Rico, se encuentra en La Habana para asistir al entierro.
Menoyo fue diagnosticado con dos aneurismas en mayo del 2011. Desde entonces su situación de salud empeoró de manera irreversible.
Patricia viajó entonces a Cuba con sus hijos -los nietos de Menoyo- para que conocieran la isla y compartieran en familia con el abuelo enfermo.
Sin ciudadanía cubana
A pesar de sus insistentes pedidos a las autoridades cubanas, nunca le legalizaron su situación en el país ni le ratificaron su ciudadanía cubana.
“Me obligaron a salir de Cuba con el pasaporte cubano el 21 de diciembre de 1986, aunque tenía pasaporte español, pero ahora me dicen que no aparecen los documentos de la ciudadan;ia cubana”, recordó Menoyo en una entrevista con Radio Netherland a fines del 2011.
“Mi padre fue una de las personas más valientes y el guerrero más dulce que he conocido… Murió donde quería morir e hizo oposición donde tenía que hacerla”, declaró Patricia Gutiérrez.
Tras abandonar Cuba por discrepancias con Fidel Castro, en 1961, Regresó en una expedición armada tres años después y fue capturado. Se le aplició una sentencia de pena de muerte, pero se le conmutó por 30 años de prisión.
Fue liberado tras 22 años de cárcel en 1986, por gestiones del entonces presidente español Felipe González. En Miami fundó el grupo Cambio Cubano en 1992 y retornó a Cuba como exiliado en 1995, cuando fue recibido por Fidel Castro por única vez.
En Miami residen su ex esposa, Gladys, y tres hijos varones de ese matrimonio.
