El multimillonario y fundador de la compañía Amazon, Jeff Bezos, contó al Congreso de Estados Unidos la historia de vida de su padre cubano. Asimismo, este emotivo momento se registró recientemente durante una reunión de Bezos con miembros del Subcomité de Derecho Antimonopolio, Comercial y Administrativo del Congreso.
Por lo tanto, durante su intervención el empresario quiso compartir su propia historia empezando por la de sus propios orígenes. En consecuencia, Jeff Bezos habló acerca de la vida de su padre cubano y el rol fundamental que ha jugado en su vida.
Bezos contó que Miguel, su padre, lo adoptó cuando tenía 4 años de edad, y desde entonces ha sido un verdadero ejemplo a seguir. “Me adoptó cuando tenía cuatro años. Tenía 16 años cuando llegó a los Estados Unidos desde Cuba como parte de la Operación Pedro Pan”, dijo.
Seguidamente, Jeff Bezos relató cómo siendo tan joven su padre llegó a un país desconocido huyendo del régimen cubano y en busca de una mejor vida. Como resultado, mencionó las diversas dificultades que este enfrentó y cómo con esfuerzo y dedicación las fue superando una a una.
“Mi papá llegó solo a América… Sus padres sintieron que estaría más seguro aquí”, comentó. Además, recordó que provenía de una familia muy modesta y que para abrigarse del frío su papá llegó con una humilde, pero también valiosa chaqueta.
“Su madre imaginó que Estados Unidos estaría frío, así que le hizo una chaqueta cosida completamente de paños de limpieza”, dijo. Sin duda, esta prenda tiene un gran valor sentimental para la familia por lo que confesó que aún la conservan colgada en el comedor de sus padres.
También, Jeff Bezos narró que tras huir del gobierno cubano su padre llegó a un centro de refugiados en Florida donde permaneció dos semanas. Seguidamente, lo trasladaron a una misión católica en Wilmington, Delaware, pero entonces no sabía hablar nada de inglés dificultándose más su camino.
Sin embargo, el empresario expuso además que una de las principales virtudes de su papá es la determinación y esto no le impidió salir adelante. Toda su dedicación, trajo como resultado la obtención de una beca para la Universidad en Albuquerque, donde conoció a su futura esposa.
Al recordar este momento, Jeff Bezos expresó que su padre y su madre han sido modelos a seguir increíbles tanto para él como para sus hermanos.
Aparte de hablar de su padre cubano, Jeff Bezos recordó a su madre, quien también tuvo que enfrentarse a dificultades durante su adolescencia. Asimismo, destacó el hecho de que teniendo 17 años de edad y estando en secundaria quedó embarazada, lo cual era muy difícil en aquella época.
No obstante, esto no fue impedimento para que ella saliera adelante y como resultado logró graduarse de la secundaria, pese a las dificultades. Seguidamente, acudió a la escuela nocturna y a clases donde le permitieran asistir en compañía de su bebé, superando así muchas pruebas.
Además, Jeff Bezos reveló que tanto su padre como su madre son coautores de todos los logros que ha logrado alcanzar durante su vida. Asimismo, recordó el papel fundamental que ellos cumplieron para la formación de una de las más importantes empresas a nivel mundial, Amazon.
Según el empresario, fueron sus padres quienes aportaron el capital inicial para iniciar la compañía que posteriormente lo volvería millonario. “El capital inicial para Amazon provino principalmente de mis padres, quienes invirtieron una gran parte de sus ahorros en algo que no entendieron”, sostuvo.
También, Jeff Bezos agradeció el que sus padres, sabiendo que había muchísimas probabilidades de fracaso, apostaran por él y no dudaron en apoyarlo. “Había un 70 por ciento de posibilidades de que perdieran su inversión, y lo hicieron de todos modos”, recordó.
