Miguel Alfonso Pozo, better known as ‘Clavelito’ was born in Ranchuelo, Province of Las Villas on September 29, 1908, and was a Cuban troubadour, poet, and singer, who stood out in the first half of the 20th century by dedicating himself mainly to the repentismo, the peasant tenths, achieving celebrity for the program ‘Put your thought in me’, broadcast by Unión Radio Televisión.

During the youth stage, he works as a street vendor, hawking the products he sells. He has no background in art. The beginnings in the art are through the duo ‘Moriano y Clavelito’, broadcast by the CMHI station in Santa Clara.

Years later Amado Trinidad Velazco, director of the RHC Cadena Azul radio station, gave him the opportunity to write the famous tenths of Pepe Cortes, the romantic bandit, written by the Cuban librettist Aramis Del Real.

The stay at Cadena Azul is brief, on April 27, 1939, he was hired by the then director of the CMQ Circuit, Miguel Gabriel and in a duet, with La Calandria he went to the great radio circuit, where he performed for thirteen years.

Among the programs carried out at that stage, ‘Colgate Controversies’, ‘Rincón Criollo’, ‘Toody Controversies’, ‘By the fields of Cuba’ and the ‘Clavelito Horoscope’ are mentioned. Once Goar Mestre, – the owner of CMQ at that time – learned that the letters he received contained money, he closed the contract.

When the Unión Radio Televisión was founded by Gaspar Pumarejo in May 1951, he began to work in that radio wave, where he began the program ‘Controversias de la pelota’, between Havana and Almendares, together with Coralia Fernández.

Later, the Unión Radio Station was sold by Gaspar Pumarejo to Ángel Cambó and he gave the faculties to “Clavelito” to, apart from acting, produce the type of program that he most wanted.

The listeners were asked to place a glass of water on the radio set, and between the Hertzian waves, the electrical waves, and the power of the conductor’s thought, the water was magnetized with force, and some “saw” how the water bubbled.

In his last years of life, he toured the political environment without much importance.

He was also the author of many songs that were a real success, such as “La Guayabera” that said:
“I want a guano hat, a flag,
I want a guayabera and a son to dance ”

Clavelito died in Cuba on July 21, 1975.

Miguel Alfonso Pozo, más conocido como Clavelito nació en Ranchuelo, Provincia de las Villas el 29 de septiembre de 1908 y fue un trovador, poeta y cantor cubano, que destaca en la primera mitad del siglo XX al dedicarse principalmente al repentismo, las décimas campesinas, logrando celebridad por el programa ‘Pon tú pensamiento en mí’, transmitido por Unión Radio Televisión.​

Durante la etapa juvenil se desempeña como vendedor callejero, pregonando los productos que vende. No tiene antecedentes en el arte. Los inicios en el arte es mediante el dúo ‘Moriano y Clavelito’, radiado por la emisora CMHI de Santa Clara.

Años más tarde Amado Trinidad Velazco, director de la emisora RHC Cadena Azul, le da la oportunidad de redactar las famosas décimas de Pepe Cortes, el bandolero romántico, escritas por el libretista cubano Aramis Del Real.​

La estancia en Cadena Azul es breve, el 27 de abril de 1939 es contratado por el entonces director del Circuito CMQ, Miguel Gabriel y a dúo con La Calandria pasa al gran circuito radial, donde actúa por espacio de trece años.

Entre los programas realizados en esa etapa se citan, ‘Controversias Colgate’, ‘Rincón Criollo’, ‘Controversias Toody’, ‘Por los campos de Cuba’ y el ‘Horóscopo de Clavelito’. Una vez enterado Goar Mestre, – propietario de CMQ en ese momento – que en las cartas que recibía contenía dinero, le cierra el contrato.

Al fundarse Unión Radio Televisión por Gaspar Pumarejo en mayo de 1951, pasa a laborar en esa onda radial, donde inicia el programa ‘Controversias de la pelota’, entre Habana y Almendares, junto a Coralia Fernández.

Tiempos después, la Emisora Unión Radio, fue vendida por Gaspar Pumarejo a Ángel Cambó y este le dio la facultades a “Clavelito” para aparte de actuar produjera el tipo de programa que más se le antojara.

Es así que surgió el programa de “El vaso de agua de Clavelito”, el programa mas escuchado de la radio cubana de todos los tiempos, ahi se podía escuchar su famosa frase:

Pon Tu Pensamiento en Mi
Y Veras que es este Momento
Mi Fuerza de Pensamiento
Ejerce el Bien sobre Ti…

A los oyentes se les pedía que colocaran un vaso de agua sobre el aparato de la radio, y entre las ondas hertzianas, las eléctricas y el poder del pensamiento del conductor, el agua se magnetizaba de fuerza y algunos “veían” como el agua burbujeaba.

En sus últimos años de vida recorrió el ambiente político sin mucha importancia.

También fue el autor de muchas canciones que fueron un verdadero éxito, como “La Guayabera” que decía:
“Quiero un sombrero de guano, una bandera,
quiero una guayabera y un son para bailar”

Clavelto murió en Cuba el 21 de julio de 1975.
