Alberto Garrido Beltran fue un actor, comediante cómico y bailarín cubano que destacó en la primera mitad de los años 1950s, conocido popularmente como Chicharito, formó pareja con el también actor Federico Piñeiro (Sopeira), los llamados ‘Ases de la risa’, triunfadores en la radio y más tarde en la televisión, donde actuaron en Unión Radio Televisión, patrocinados por la Cerveza Hatuey a la 1.00 antes de Codazos y en Televisión Nacional.
CARRERA ARTISTICA
Nace el 7 de agosto de 1909 en La Habana. Debuta como actor en 1928 en el teatro Luna Park con la puesta en escena de la obra ¡Oh, mister Garri!, escrita para él por Mario Sorondo. De 1931 a 1936 integra la compañía de zarzuelas del Teatro Martí.
En esa etapa interviene en los estrenos de las obras, Cecilia Valdés, Rosa la China, María Belén Chacón, El Clarín y Amalia Batista. En ese teatro ocurre el encuentro con Federico Piñeiro con quien integra el dúo conocido como Chicharito y Sopeira y el Negrito y el Gallego.

A finales de la década de 1930 forma la compañía de teatro vernáculo, Garrido y Piñero, donde intervienen entre otros actores, Candita Quintana, Julio Richard, Alicia Rico y Carmita Ortiz. Por esa época también interviene en Pototo y Filomeno.
En 1938 participa en el filme cubano Romance en el Palmar con dirección de Ramón Peón, también trabaja en la película Sucedió en La Habana del propio Peón, compartiendo escenas con Rita Montaner y María de los Ángeles Santana.
En 1939 lo hace en Estampas habaneras, realizado y dirigida por Jaime Salvador, junto a Federico Piñeiro, Alicia Rico y Blanquita Amaro, la película fue estrenada el 10 de mayo en el teatro Payret. Otros filmes de ese año fueron La última melodía, Cancionero cubano y Mi tía de América de todas de Jaime Salvador Valls.
En 1940 contrae matrimonio con la actriz y bailarina Carmita Ortiz. En 1943 interviene en ‘Fantasmas del Caribe’, dirigida por Ernesto Caparrós y en 1950 lo hace en ‘Cuando las mujeres mandan’ de José González Prieto.

DÚO CHICHARITO Y SOPEIRA
Junto a Federico Piñero, formó el conocido dúo de Chicharito y Sopeira, los llamados Ases de la risa, triunfadores en la radio y más tarde en la televisión, donde actuaron en Unión Radio Televisión, patrocinados por la Cerveza Hatuey.
Estos personajes creados por Antonio Castells, conocidos también como el negrito y gallego sirvieron durante esa época para hacer crítica social y era el reflejo de la crónica diaria de la actualidad nacional, haciendo especial sátira a dos sectores de la sociedad cubana, los negros y los emigrantes gallegos. Famosos eran los comentarios diarios sobre el deporte cubano de la Pelota, donde Garrido era fanatico del famoso Club Habana y Sopeira fanatico del Almendares.
Sobre las cualidades de Garrido, expresó Enrique Núñez Rodríguez: El más completo de todos, a mi juicio, fue Alberto Garrido, Chicharito, que en la radio Nacional y en el Teatro Martí constituyó con Federico Piñero, El gallego, la pareja más famosa de todos los tiempos. Bailaba con una gracia insuperable. Y no sólo tumba. En una obra que escribí para él, en la que hacía de torero, tenía que interpretar a un bailarín flamenco. Lo hacía con tal gracia que tenía que repetir el baile siete u ocho veces. Yo no había visto nunca a un bailarín flamenco. Años después, ya fallecido Garrido, nos visitó Antonio Gades. Lo vi bailar con Alicia Alonso, y sólo entonces, salvando las distancias, supe la clase de bailarín que era Garrido. Como torero, con el traje de luces, manejaba con elegancia digna de Silverio Pérez, la capota roja de las famosas faenas. Y cantando parodias estremecía el teatro”.

“En una obra que escribí para el Teatro Martí demoré su salida a escena con toda intención. No salía hasta el tercer cuadro. El respetable se impacientaba”. “La trama avanzaba sin él. De pronto, de entre cajas, escuchó su voz, cantando: “Se acabaron los guapos en Yateras”. Fue el acabose. Más de quince minutos de aplausos, con el escenario vacío, hasta que el jefe de escena le ordenó salir a saludar y proseguir con la obra. Fueron dieciocho minutos más de aplausos ininterrumpidos. Quizás no será un récord Guinness, pero confieso que nunca he visto nada parecido”.

Y Continua Nunez Rodriguez con anecdotas de Chicharito, “en la radio, Garrido, que leía con mucha dificultad, solía saltarse los renglones y decir lo que le correspondía a Piñero. El Gallego, sin inmutarse, decía: “Eso mismo digo yo… eso mismo digo yo…”, y repetía la frase que a él le correspondía. De ese modo Garrido volvía a incorporarse al libreto. “Las improvisaciones o morcillas de Garrido fueron famosas. Es clásica su narración de las inundaciones provocadas por un ciclón que azotó La Habana”.
“Antonio Castells, el creador de Chicharito y Sopeira le había inventado una familia cuyos personajes aparecían en la narración de Garrido. Ninguno respondía a un intérprete. Sólo se hablaba de ellos en la trama. En aquellas inundaciones, Garrido narraba cómo su cuarto se llenó de agua, y él sacó a Monguito, su hijo, para salvarlo de morir ahogado. Se extendió en una simpática descripción de las peripecias en que se vio envuelto durante el paso del ciclón. En un momento determinado Piñero, que lo escuchaba atentamente, le preguntó: “Tú no traías a Monguito cargado, qué hiciste con él?” Garrido, que se había olvidado totalmente de su hijo, le respondió: “Se me había olvidado contarte que por la corriente de agua pasó un tibor flotando, monté a Monguito en el tibor y fue a parar a Luyanó a casa de Goya, su mamá, que estaba pasándose el día en casa de mi suegra”.
