La yagruma, es un árbol de la familia de las Moráceas de grandes hojas verdes, palmeadas, por el haz y plateadas por el envés, y en el habla de la gente del pueblo la utilizamos en la frase “como la yagruma”, para indicar que una persona es falsa o hipócrita.
El término güiro, que hace referencia a la planta de fruto similar a una calabaza de corteza dura y amarilla cuando se seca, es empleado en la expresión “perder güiro, calabaza y miel”, en el sentido de no tomar una decisión en el momento preciso.
En el caso relacionado con el mundo animal “saber más que las bibijaguas” se le aplica a la astucia y habilidades de algunas persona, y “a paso de jicotea” se refiere a la manera de andar, hacer y llevar las cosas con lentitud sin preocupación por el tiempo.
Las expresiones populares tan recurrentes entre los cubanos, distintas de los refranes y proverbios, forman un conjunto de palabras que no coincide con el sentido literal de las mismas y según especialistas en el tema suman más de mil 500 en el idioma español.
