Se cuadruplica en enero la cifra de turistas extranjeros en Cuba. El sector turístico estatal prevé concluir este año con 84.906 habitaciones, un 5,7% más que el ejercicio previo, a pesar de la pandemia.

El número de turistas extranjeros que visitaron Cuba el pasado enero fue casi cuatro veces superior al del mismo mes del año anterior, cuando las cifras se hundieron debido al covid-19.
Según publicó este sábado la Oficina Nacional de Estadísticas e Información (ONEI), la cifra de visitantes internacionales ascendió el pasado enero a 134.661, frente a los 35.842 del primer mes de 2021.
El fuerte incremento está ligado a la recuperación mundial de la pandemia, tanto en Cuba como en sus principales mercados emisores de turistas, y contrasta con la evolución en el conjunto de 2021.
El ONEI cifró en 573.944 los viajeros internacionales que visitaron Cuba en todo el año pasado, lo que supuso un descenso del 60% con respecto a 2020.
La cifra del conjunto de 2021 supone un cuarto de la proyección oficial a comienzos de año, que estaba en unos 2,2 millones de visitantes, y muy lejos de los entre 4 y 5 millones de turistas anuales de los ejercicios previos a la pandemia.

El Ministerio de Economía y Planificación estima que este año viajen a la Isla unos 2,5 millones de visitantes internacionales, que deberían aportar unos 1.159 millones de dólares a la economía cubana.
Cuba, que reabrió sus fronteras a mediados del pasado noviembre tras el cierre obligado por la pandemia, tiene en el turismo un sector prioritario. Se trata de su segunda mayor partida del producto interior bruto (PIB) y de su tercera mayor fuente de divisa extranjera, por detrás de la venta de servicios médicos y de las remesas.

En El Vedado habanero, por ejemplo, la deteriorada estructura del restaurante Moscú está siendo demolida aceleradamente para dar paso a un alojamiento que gestionarán la empresa cubana Gran Caribe y la compañía española Be Live, y hace diez días se reinauguró el Telégrafo Axel Hotel como el primer establecimiento LGBTI friendly de la capital.
A pesar de las restricciones por el coronavirus, de la falta de turistas y de la escasez de suministros de la construcción en todo el país, el Grupo de Administración Empresarial S.A. (Gaesa), el conglomerado de los militares, no ha detenido sus proyectos descomunales. Uno de ellos es el que se está levantando en 25 y K, en El Vedado, un hotel de lujo que se proyecta como “el más alto de su tipo en La Habana” y que se propone alcanzar los 42 pisos y 154 metros de altura.
Por otro lado, la empresa indonesia ‘Archipiélago’ ya administra en Cuba el Aston Panorama, antiguo Hotel Panorama, también en La Habana, el Grand Aston Cayo Las Brujas, en la cayería norte de Villa Clara, y el Aston Costa Verde, en Holguín.
En 2022, además, la hotelera asiática sumará otras dos nuevas instalaciones: el Grand Aston Cayo Paredón y el Grand Aston Varadero.

The number of foreign tourists who visited Cuba last January was almost four times higher than the same month of the previous year, when the figures sank due to covid-19.
As published this Saturday by the National Office of Statistics and Information (ONEI), the number of international visitors rose to 134,661 last January, compared to 35,842 in the first month of 2021.
The strong increase is linked to the global recovery from the pandemic, both in Cuba and in its main tourist source markets, and contrasts with the evolution in 2021 as a whole.
The ONEI estimated at 573,944 international travelers who visited Cuba throughout last year, which represented a decrease of 60% compared to 2020.
