La Embajada de Estados Unidos en La Habana reanudará de forma limitada el servicio de visas para inmigrantes cubanos a partir del próximo mayo.
“Como se anunció el 3 de marzo, 2022, la @USEmbCuba reanudará los servicios de visas de inmigrante de forma limitada. A partir de mayo de 2022, la @USEmbCuba reanudará el procesamiento limitado de visas de inmigrante priorizando a los solicitantes de la categoría IR-5”, informan este miércoles en su cuenta de Twitter.
En la citada red, igual comparten las preguntas y respuestas más frecuentes sobre este tema en las que aclaran todo el tiempo que solo se reanuda la tramitación limitada de visados de inmigrante para los solicitantes de la categoría IR-5, que es para padre o madre de un ciudadano estadounidense mayor de 21 años.
Esa categoría se escogió, según su web oficial, por los desafíos únicos de edad, salud y movilidad para esta categoría de solicitantes.
También se aclara que este cambio forma parte de una ampliación general de las funciones de la sede diplomática estadounidense en La Habana para facilitar el compromiso diplomático y de la sociedad civil y proporcionar servicios consulares.
Asimismo, puntualizan que “mientras trabajamos para reanudar la tramitación limitada de visas de inmigrante en la Embajada de La Habana, la Embajada en Georgetown, Guyana, seguirá siendo el lugar principal de tramitación para la mayoría de los solicitantes cubanos de visas de inmigrante”.
En 2017, el gobierno de Estados Unidos redujo su presencia diplomática en La Habana en más de la mitad, y advirtió a sus ciudadanos que no visitaran Cuba debido a los ataques sónicos dirigidos que afectaron al menos a 26 miembros de su personal.
“Hasta que el Gobierno de Cuba pueda garantizar la seguridad de nuestros diplomáticos en Cuba, nuestra embajada será reducida a personal de emergencia para minimizar el número de funcionarios expuestos al riesgo”, dijo el entonces secretario de Estado de Estados Unidos, Rex Tillerson, en un comunicado.
“Mantendremos las relaciones diplomáticas con Cuba (…) que nos ha dicho que continuará investigando estos ataques y seguiremos cooperando con ellos en este esfuerzo”, agregó.
