El barrio de El Toscal se ha llenado de banderas, señales de tráfico y carros con chapa de Cuba, además de un mercado creado para la serie “Montecristo” del actor cubano-americano William Levy.
UN BARRIO DE LA ISLA ESPAÑOLA de Santa Cruz de Tenerife se ha convertido en La Habana para la filmación de una serie protagonizada por el actor cubano William Levy.
El Toscal se ha llenado por estos días de banderas, señales de tráfico y autos con matrícula de Cuba, paredes con propaganda comunista, vendedores ambulantes de frutas y un mercado creado especialmente para la escenografía de Montecristo, el último proyecto del popular galán.
William Gutiérrez-Levy nació en Cojimar, Cuba un 29 de agosto de 1980 y su carrera la ha desarrollado como actor y modelo. Su abuelo materno era judío (el origen de su apellido, Levy), emigró a Miami, Florida cuando él tenía 14 años. Asistió a la escuela secundaria Barbara Goleman Senior, ubicada en el suburbio de Miami Lakes. Después de asistir a la escuela secundaria, estudió administración de empresas con una beca de béisbol en la Universidad de St. Thomas durante dos años. Más tarde se fue a Los Ángeles a estudiar actuación y continuó sus estudios de actuación en Miami y Ciudad de México.
LA NUEVA SERIE “MONTECRISTO”…
Se trata de una miniserie de seis capítulos para Netflix, producida por William Levy Entertainment junto a Secuoya Studios, basada en el clásico literario El conde de Montecristo, del escritor francés Alejandro Dumas.
“Para ser sincero, solo hemos tenido que aumentar los cables y colocar ropa tendida y algunos detalles más”, dijo a El Día Guillermo Ríos, de la productora River Flow Pictures, quien vivió de niño en Cuba y ahora fue el responsable de transformar El Toscal en La Habana Vieja.
La filmación, que se realizará en diferentes localizaciones de la isla canaria, se extenderá durante tres semanas. En mayo se grabaron las escenas de Madrid.
En la serie Levy encarna a Alejandro Montecristo, fundador y director ejecutivo de una empresa tecnológica de éxito, que busca venganza contra quienes lo traicionaron décadas atrás, para lo cual no duda en actuar al margen de la ley y con las mismas armas de sus enemigos.
“En el rodaje de la persecución hay un atropello y es el doble quien entra en acción”, precisó Guillermo Ríos, quien añadió que tras lograr zafarse, el personaje es perseguido por tres agentes de la policía cubana.
El material está dirigido por Alberto Ruiz Rojo y cuenta con guion de Lidia Fraga y Jacobo Díaz.
La producción llega al archipiélago tras rodar parte de su escenografía en Madrid, en una producción que llevará este clásico de la literatura a una versión contemporánea.
También trabajan en esta producción conocidas estrellas de la televisión latinos y españoles como Esmeralda Pimentel, Roberto Enríquez o Silvia Abascal, Juan Fernández, Guiomar Puerta y Héctor Noas, Franky Martín, Itziar Atienza, Javier Godino, Alberto Olmo, Ana Álvarez, Roberto San Martín y Andrew Tarbet, entre otros, participan también en esta serie de seis episodios.

A NEIGHBORHOOD ON THE SPANISH ISLAND of Santa Cruz de Tenerife has become Havana for the filming of a series starring Cuban actor William Levy.
These days El Toscal has been filled with flags, traffic signs and cars with Cuban license plates, walls with communist propaganda, street fruit vendors, and a market created especially for the staging of Montecristo, the latest project of the popular heartthrob.
William Gutiérrez-Levy was born in Cojimar, Cuba on August 29, 1980, and his career has been developed as an actor and model. His maternal grandfather was Jewish (the origin of his last name, Levy), and immigrated to Miami, Florida when he was 14 years old. He attended Barbara Goleman Senior High School, located in the suburb of Miami Lakes. After attending high school, he studied business on a baseball scholarship at the University of St. Thomas for two years. He later went to Los Angeles to study acting and continued his acting studies in Miami and Mexico City.
THE NEW “MONTECRISTO” SERIES…
It is a six-part miniseries for Netflix, produced by William Levy Entertainment together with Secuoya Studios, based on the literary classic The Count of Monte Cristo, by the French writer Alejandro Dumas.
“To be honest, we have only had to increase the cables and put clothes on the line and a few other details,” Guillermo Ríos, from the production company River Flow Pictures, told El Día. He lived in Cuba as a child and was now responsible for transforming El Toscal in Old Havana.
The filming, which will take place in different locations on Canary Island, will last three weeks. In May the Madrid scenes were recorded.
In the series, Levy plays Alejandro Montecristo, founder, and CEO of a successful technology company, who seeks revenge against those who betrayed him decades ago, for which he does not hesitate to act outside the law and with the same weapons as his enemies.
“In the filming of the chase there is an outrage and it is the double who enters into action,” said Guillermo Ríos, who added that after managing to escape, the character is pursued by three Cuban police officers.
The material is directed by Alberto Ruiz Rojo and has a script by Lidia Fraga and Jacobo Díaz.
The production arrives in the archipelago after shooting part of its scenery in Madrid, in a production that will take this classic of literature to a contemporary version.
