Carlos Armando Ponce Freyre Jr. nació el 4 de septiembre de 1972, es un actor, músico, modelo y personalidad televisiva cubano-puertorriqueño.
Ponce comenzó su carrera como actor participando en telenovelas en español para Televisa y Telemundo. Ponce continuó expandiendo su carrera como actor al participar en varias series de televisión estadounidenses. No se limitó únicamente a una carrera en televisión. Ponce, quien también es cantante, también está activo en la industria cinematográfica estadounidense como actor de carácter. En la película, interpretó a Salvadore en Couples Retreat, Matthew Wright en Spy y Rodrigo en Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo. En televisión, interpretó a Félix González en Cristela y Max Duran en Hollywood Heights, además de expresar a Santiago Santos en Maya & Miguel.
Ponce nació en Santurce, Puerto Rico. Sus padres, Carlos Ponce Sr. y Esther Freyre emigraron de Cuba después de la Revolución de 1959. Después de su nacimiento, la familia se mudó a Humacao, donde se crió Ponce. De niño, participaba activamente en las obras de teatro de su escuela y en casa, a menudo organizaba un espectáculo para la familia donde cantaba las últimas canciones. “Carlitos”, como se le conoce en Puerto Rico, comenzó a aparecer en comerciales de televisión a la edad de seis años. En 1986, la familia Ponce se mudó a Miami, Florida, y Ponce continuó participando en las producciones de su escuela en South Miami Senior High. Fue nombrado el mejor estudiante actor de la región sur de los Estados Unidos.
En 1990, Ponce participó en la Conferencia de Teatro del Sureste y compitió por la oportunidad de ganar una beca. Ganó y se matriculó en el conservatorio New World School of the Arts. Sin embargo, la estación de televisión en español Univision le ofreció a Ponce la oportunidad de conducir un programa llamado Hablando (Hablando). Este fue su primer debut televisivo serio y tras su debut abandonó sus estudios universitarios.
CARRERA ARTÍSTICA
Después de que Hablando llegó a su fin, Ponce fue a México a visitar a un amigo. Estando allí visitó la televisora Televisa. El director de talentos de la emisora conoció a Ponce y le ofreció su primer papel en una telenovela: Guadalupe, protagonizada por Adela Noriega y Eduardo Yáñez. Participó en otra telenovela de Televisa, Sentimientos Ajenos, en la que interpretó al personaje principal. Ponce también cantó el tema principal de la producción. Recibió el “Premio Actor Revelación de 1997” de la revista Eres y fue nombrado “Mejor Actor” por la revista TV y Novelas (ambas publicaciones mexicanas).
Entre producciones, Ponce regresó a Miami y Univision lo contrató como presentador de un nuevo programa, Control. Presentó el programa durante tres años y ganó un “Premio ACE”.
En 2003, Ponce se unió a Entertainment Tonight como corresponsal. También presentó An Entertainment Tonight Event: Celebrity Weddings Unveiled, un especial en horario estelar de CBS. Ponce presentó el certamen de Miss Universo 2006 en Los Ángeles, con Shandi Finnessey, Nancy O’Dell y Carson Kressley. En 2007 protagonizó la telenovela de Telemundo NBC Universal Dame Chocolate (Dame Chocolate) junto a Génesis Rodríguez y Karla Monroig. Ponce también protagonizó Perro Amor en 2010 en la misma cadena. En 2012, Ponce comenzó a presentar el exitoso concurso de canto puertorriqueño para niños en Wapa Television llamado Idol Kids Puerto Rico. En 2013, Ponce apareció en Santa Diablo de Telemundo como Humberto Cano.
INDUSTRIA CINEMATOGRÁFICA AMERICANA
En 1998 debutó en la televisión estadounidense con su participación en las series de televisión Beverly Hills, 90210 y 7th Heaven donde interpretó al esposo de Mary Camden, el personaje de Jessica Biel. También hizo apariciones especiales en Live with Regis and Kathie Lee y en Donny & Marie.
En 1998, Emilio Estefan Jr. y Kike Santander firmaron a Ponce con un contrato discográfico. Su primer disco se tituló Carlos Ponce, e incluía tres composiciones propias. El álbum alcanzó el puesto #1 en los Latin Billboards durante nueve semanas en la comunidad hispana de los Estados Unidos. También alcanzó el puesto número 1 en América Central y América del Sur. Fue galardonado con un premio Doble Platino por las ventas que generó su álbum.
En Billboard Hot Latin Tracks, Carlos Ponce alcanzó el puesto número uno en tres ocasiones con “Rezo” (Rezo), “Decir Adiós” (Di adiós) y “Escúchame” (Escúchame).
En 1999, Ponce grabó su segundo álbum de estudio, Todo lo que soy. Los Juegos Mundiales de Atletismo celebrados en Sevilla, España, adoptaron como tema oficial la canción “Amelia” del segundo disco de Ponce. Ese mismo año, Walt Disney Studios lo contrató para cantar “Bella Notte” en la película animada Lady and the Tramp II: Scamp’s Adventure. También apareció en la serie dramática de ABC Once and Again.
En 2003, Ponce se interpretó a sí mismo en la película Chasing Papi junto a otros latinos: los puertorriqueños Roselyn Sánchez, Lisa Vidal, Walter Mercado, la actriz colombiana Sofía Vergara y la cantante pop latina Jaci Velásquez. Luego de esta experiencia, se fue a Nueva Zelanda a filmar Meet Me in Miami.
En 2005, Ponce apareció brevemente en la película Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo.
En 2006, Ponce participó en la controvertida grabación de la versión en español de Star-Spangled Banner, llamada “Nuestro Himno”, junto a Wyclef Jean, Gloria Trevi y Olga Tañón. Fue anfitrión del concurso Miss Universo 2006 en Los Ángeles, junto con Nancy O’Dell y Carson Kressley. También apareció en la película Just My Luck, con Lindsay Lohan, Chris Pine y McFly.
En 2008, Ponce interpretó a un juez famoso junto a la actriz y cantante María Conchita Alonso en la serie de telerrealidad de VH1 ¡Viva Hollywood!
En 2009, Ponce protagonizó la segunda temporada de Lipstick Jungle, donde interpretó a un personaje llamado Rodrigo. Más tarde declaró que aceptó el papel porque podría “beneficiarse” de su carrera. También ese año, apareció en Couples Retreat como instructor de yoga.
De 2014 a 2015, Ponce coprotagonizó la comedia de ABC Cristela como Félix, el protagonista masculino del programa.
En 2020, Carlos apareció en Julie and the Phantoms como el padre del personaje principal, Ray Molina.
Luego de la tragedia de los atentados del 11 de septiembre de 2001, Ponce se unió a un grupo de 100 cantantes latinoamericanos, quienes se unieron para rendir homenaje a las víctimas grabando “Último Adiós” (“Last Good-Bye”). Las ganancias de la grabación fueron donadas a las familias de las víctimas. Ese mismo año Ponce participó en la producción de Televisa Sin Pecado Concebido, junto a la actriz mexicana Angélica Rivera. En 2002, grabó su tercer álbum de estudio, Ponce; más tarde ese año firmó un contrato con Telemundo para presentar un programa de telerrealidad llamado Protagonista de la Música, que se convirtió en uno de los programas hispanos más populares en los Estados Unidos y Puerto Rico.
VIDA PERSONAL
Ponce se casó con su novia de la escuela secundaria, la fotógrafa Verónica Rubio, hermana del actual senador estadounidense Marco Rubio. Residieron en Miami, Florida, con sus cuatro hijos: Giancarlo (nacido en 1999), Sebastián (nacido en 2001) y las gemelas Savannah y Sienna (nacidas en 2002). En 2010, la pareja se divorció.
Del 2010 al 2016 estuvo en una relación con la actriz colombiana Ximena Duque.
En el 2018 inició una relación con la presentadora de televisión mexicana Karina Banda. Se casaron en diciembre de 2020.

Carlos Armando Ponce Freyre Jr. was born on September 4, 1972, is a Cuban-Puerto Rican actor, musician, model, and television personality.
Ponce began his acting career by participating in Spanish-language soap operas for Televisa and Telemundo. Ponce continued to expand his acting career by participating in various American television series. He did not limit himself solely to a career in television. Ponce, who is also a singer, is also active in the American movie industry as a character actor. In the film, he played Salvadore in Couples Retreat, Matthew Wright in Spy, and Rodrigo in Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo. In television, he played Felix Gonzalez in Cristela, and Max Duran in Hollywood Heights, as well as voicing Santiago Santos in Maya & Miguel.
Ponce was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico. His parents, Carlos Ponce Sr. and Esther Freyre emigrated from Cuba after the 1959 Revolution. After his birth, the family moved to Humacao, where Ponce was raised. As a child, he actively participated in his school’s plays and at home, he would often put on a show for the family where he would sing the latest tunes. “Carlitos”, as he is known in Puerto Rico, started to appear in television commercials at the age of six. He attended high school in Humacao and was a member of the school’s drama club.
In 1986, the Ponce family moved to Miami, Florida, and Ponce continued to participate in his school’s productions at South Miami Senior High. He was named the best student actor in the southern region of the United States.
In 1990, Ponce participated in the Southeastern Theatre Conference and competed for the chance to win a scholarship. He won and enrolled in the New World School of the Arts conservatory. However, the Spanish-language television station Univision offered Ponce the opportunity to host a show called Hablando (Talking). This was his first serious television debut and after his debut, he gave up his university studies.
ARTISTIC CAREER
After Hablando came to its end, Ponce went to Mexico to visit a friend. While there he visited the Televisa television station. The talent director of the station met Ponce and offered Ponce his first role in a soap opera: Guadalupe, starring Adela Noriega and Eduardo Yáñez. He participated in another soap opera for Televisa, Sentimientos Ajenos, in which he played the main character. Ponce also sang the theme song for the production. He received the “Actor Revelation of 1997 Award” by Eres magazine and was named “Best Actor” by TV y Novelas magazine (both are Mexican publications).
In between productions, Ponce returned to Miami and Univision hired him as the host of a new show, Control. He hosted the show for three years and won an “ACE Award”.
In 2003, Ponce joined Entertainment Tonight as a correspondent. He also hosted An Entertainment Tonight Event — Celebrity Weddings Unveiled, a CBS primetime special. Ponce hosted the 2006 Miss Universe pageant in Los Angeles, with Shandi Finnessey, Nancy O’Dell, and Carson Kressley. In 2007, he starred in the Telemundo NBC Universal telenovela Dame Chocolate (Give Me Chocolate) alongside Génesis Rodríguez and Karla Monroig. Ponce also starred in Perro Amor in 2010 on the same network. In 2012, Ponce began hosting the hit Puerto Rican singing competition for kids on Wapa Television called Idol Kids Puerto Rico. In 2013, Ponce appeared on Telemundo’s Santa Diablo as Humberto Cano.

From 2010 to 2016, he was in a relationship with Colombian actress Ximena Duque.
