Daymé Arocena es una cantante de jazz afrocubana, ademas de compositora y directora, y que ha sido descrita como la “mejor joven cantante” de Cuba. Ganó el Premio Juno 2015 por la mejor álbum de jazz, como miembro de la banda de jazz Maqueque actuando con la música canadiense Jane Bunnett. Arocena está en la lista de los 50 álbumes favoritos de 2015 de National Public Radio (NPR), con el disco Nueva Era.
Nacida en La Habana un 22 de Enero de 1992, Arocena es una talentosa y carismática representación de la más novedosa música cubana. Su potente voz y su capacidad de asimilación de las más diversas corrientes musicales –en especial el jazz y la canción cubana–, unida a su devoción por la cultura afrocubana, la convierten en una de las más emocionantes jóvenes artistas de la escena contemporánea de Cuba.
Al describir la voz de Arocena, el presentador de NPR, Félix Contreras, la llamó “un cruce entre Celia Cruz y Aretha Franklin”, y dijo que el nombre de Arocena “merece de estar junto a esas dos voces legendarias”.
Arocena comenzó a actuar de manera semiprofesional cuando tenía ocho años; a la edad de 14 años, se convirtió en la cantante principal de la banda Los Primos. Se la considera un prodigio musical y es una compositora, arreglista, directora de coro y líder de banda, además de cantante.
Al comienzo de sus estudios académicos en la música, probó fortuna con diversos instrumentos como el piano, el violín y la guitarra, hasta que se decantó por la dirección coral, al comprender que su voz era su mejor instrumento. CARRERA ARTISTICA

En el 2013, tras participar con Alami en el festival Jazz Plaza, fue invitada por la saxofonista canadiense Jane Bunnett a sumarse a su proyecto Maqueque, con el que grabó el disco de igual nombre que obtuvo el premio Juno 2015 en la categoría de mejor álbum de jazz.
Su trabajo llamó la atención de los organizadores de Havana Cultura, una plataforma para la promoción de la cultura contemporánea de Cuba, quienes la invitaron a formar parte de Havana Cultura Mix, que tuvo como resultado “Havana Cultura Mix- The Soundclash!”, un disco producido por el disc jockey Gilles Peterson, en el que convocó a Djs de todo el mundo para trabajar junto a músicos cubanos. Como resultado Dayme cantó en tres temas, incluido el exitoso “U Knew Before”.
