Con solo conocer el anuncio de sus presentaciones y verla luego levantar con maestría y pasión su batuta ante su orquesta de cámara, ya Zenaida Romeu tiene garantizadas la presencia del público a sala llena y la extensa ovación.
Los conocedores de su vida artística y de las dotes magistrales como directora de su Camerata, además de los seguidores, la saben virtuosa y consagrada a la buena música y ejecución, tributando así con merecimiento a esa herencia familiar del pentagrama que le corre por las venas.
Varias generaciones de jóvenes se han formado y crecido profesionalmente al lado de esta mujer que este 4 de diciembre arribó, sin parecerlo, a sus 70 años de vida. Su magisterio ha sido permanente y certero, sobre todo desde hace casi tres décadas en el seno de la Camerata que lleva su apellido, con un ensemble de cuerdas heredado de la tradición europea y que posee sello único en el mundo por su género (integrada solo por mujeres), repertorio y presencia escénica.

En la escena musical, lo mismo da muestras de una deslumbrante disertación de cubanía, que se adentra con destreza en ejecuciones de clásicos europeos en toda una mística inigualable, sobre todo la que se vive en la sede habitual de las presentaciones de la Camerata: la hermosa Basílica Menor del Convento de San Francisco de Asís, ubicada en el Centro Histórico de La Habana.
Un repertorio variado y atractivo al oído de cubanos y foráneos se escoge para cada presentación y en ello Zenaida lleva las de ganar, con su exquisito sentido de selección para un público diverso y muchas veces asiduo a sus entregas musicales, conocedor de esa particular manera que tiene de ejecutar cada pieza, ya sea incluso de diferentes estilos como sones, danzones, canciones tradicionales y guajiras, que se mezclan con las piezas más refinadas y bellas de la colección internacional.
Lo mismo la Camerata ejecuta, dirigida por ella, una selección de Adagios criollos, una Suite de danzas cubanas, de la autoría de Ignacio Cervantes; La Comparsa, de Ernesto Lecuona o La bella cubana, de José White, que de los violines, violas, violoncelo y contrabajo emanan sonidos que nos transportan a los elegantes estilos de Antonio Vivaldi, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven y Johann Sebastian Bach.
Graduada y con vasta experiencia en dirección coral y orquestal, a su vez no descuida ningún detalle; cada pieza que se interpreta por su agrupación cameral es como un todo, donde no se descuida la distinción y destreza musical ni la elegancia de las muchachas que hacen maravillas con sus instrumentos, avaladas por una sólida formación académica.
En las manos, muy expresivas, de esta sensible mujer cubana se sintetiza toda la fuerza y el decir que impregna a cada pieza musical; en ellas se resume la dinámica, el carácter, el timbre, la velocidad que le impregna a cada gesto ejecutante.
Muchos e importantes han sido los reconocimientos que ha recibido Zenaida a lo largo de su bella vida artística, por solo citar dos nominaciones al Grammy Latino, Premio de Honor del Cuba Disco, y la Orden por la Cultura Cubana, así como no menos importantes numerosos premios internacionales, pero para ella el mayor regalo está en el aplauso de su público fiel, ese que la sigue en todas partes y que con alegría participa de sus triunfos.
Nada la envanece: ni sus giras internacionales ni sus 12 producciones discográficas ni los documentales que atesoran su ejecutoria musical; tampoco la Medalla de Marsella, la Campana de Philadelphia ni el diploma como Huésped Ilustre de la Ciudad de Los Ángeles, lo cual no deja de valorar en su justa dimensión.
La cultura cubana se prestigia con su virtuosismo y magisterio permanente, al que ha consagrado gran parte de sus siete décadas de vida. Su cubanía, el arraigo a sus raíces y a su tierra elevan su prestigio y la simpatía del pueblo cubano.
