LA CANTANTE CUBANA Celia Cruz fue recordada este viernes en el santuario dedicado a la virgen patrona de Cuba en Miami, donde el coro interpretó la canción “Guantanamera” como un homenaje con motivo del vigésimo aniversario de su muerte.
“La guarachera de Cuba y del mundo”, como dijeron sus familiares presentes en el homenaje, falleció el 16 de julio de 2013 y en Miami el aniversario se celebró por adelantado, pues el acto central de las conmemoraciones tendrá lugar en Nueva York este fin de semana, en otros lugares del mundo se recordará en este mes de Julio a “La Guarachera de Cuba”.
Unas 50 personas, entre ellas un primo, un sobrino y otros familiares de la artista, asistieron a la inauguración y bendición de un banco con el nombre de Celia Cruz grabado situado en el malecón que se encuentra junto a la ermita de Nuestra Señora de la Caridad del Cobre y mira hacia Cuba.
Tras la inauguración, se celebró una misa dedicada a la estrella de la salsa, que era muy devota de la patrona de Cuba, cuyo nombre llevaba pues se llamaba Celia Caridad Alfonsa Cruz.
En la homilía, el sacerdote oficiante recordó con tristeza que Celia Cruz, que se exilió en EE UU, nunca pudo volver a Cuba y pidió a Dios por la liberación de los presos políticos y para que “todos los cubanos puedan vivir con plena libertad y justicia”.

Entre los asistentes a la misa estaba el cantante Yotuel Romero, uno de los autores de la canción “Patria y Vida”, que se convirtió en el himno de las protestas que estallaron en Cuba el 11 de julio de 2021, de la que se acaban de cumplir dos años.
En unas declaraciones a EFE, Romero, que estaba acompañado de su esposa, la cantante y actriz española Beatriz Luengo y de los dos hijos de ambos, dijo que “hay que recordar a Celia todos los días”.
Subrayó que si bien a “la guarachera de Cuba” le tocó hace 20 años partir físicamente, sigue estando presente espiritualmente.
“Celia está presente en mi vida y en la de mi familia”, dijo Romero.
Omer Pardillo, que fue el representante de Celia Cruz y hoy dirige una fundación que lleva su nombre, destacó que los homenajes a la “guarachera de Cuba” van a continuar en Miami con una exposición que abrirá sus puertas en el barrio de la Pequeña Habana el 27 de julio y reúne objetos que le pertenecieron y están relacionados con su carrera, así como prendas y pelucas que usó en sus actuaciones artísticas.

THE CUBAN SINGER Celia Cruz was remembered this Friday at the sanctuary dedicated to the patron virgin of Cuba in Miami, where the choir performed the song “Guantanamera” as a tribute on the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of her death.
