VLADIMIR CRUZ: ACTOR, CINEASTA.

Nació el 26 de julio de 1965 en Placetas (provincia de Las Villas) Cuba. La ciudad de Placetas se encuentra a 37 km al este de la ciudad de Santa Clara (capital de la provincia Villa Clara), en el centro de la isla de Cuba.

Comenzó en el teatro a los quince años como actor aficionado y a los diecisiete ya estudiaba en el Instituto Superior de Arte de La Habana, donde se graduó como Licenciado en Artes Escénicas en 1988.

Se dio a conocer internacionalmente en el año 1994 a partir del éxito internacional de la película Fresa y chocolate, que incluyó la nominación al Oscar en 1995.
Tiene una extensa trayectoria profesional no solo en el cine, si no también en el teatro y la televisión.

En este magnifico film cubano ‘Fresa y Chocolate’ presenta la inusual relación entre el extravagante, educado Diego (Jorge Perugorría) y el joven, homófobo, pro-Revolution David (Vladimir Cruz). Miserable por haber sido abandonado por su novia, David al principio rechaza las atenciones de Diego, sin embargo, a instancias de su compañero de habitación Comunista, Miguel (Francisco Gattorno), cultiva una convivencia con Diego para investigar sus inclinaciones liberales. Por supuesto, las formas cultivadas de Diego resultar fascinante para el hombre joven y una verdadera amistad crece. Su labor como guionista comenzó en el año 2005. Su primer guión fue Civilizados, cortometraje rodado ese mismo año y en el que también actúa.

Este corto tuvo una significativa trayectoria internacional participando en importantes festivales como el Internacional de Huesca, en España, o el Laliff (Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival)

TEATRO

Este es el medio en que ha desarrollado una trayectoria más amplia. Después de estudiar Artes Escénicas cinco años en el Instituto Superior de Arte de la Habana, y de realizar cursos y talleres con importantes pedagogos del teatro contemporáneo, como Antunes Filho o Eugenio Barba, el teatro lo ha llevado a actuar en escenarios de múltiples países y a confrontarse directamente con el público de varios continentes. Considera el teatro su escuela y su medio natural, es por ello que nunca ha abandonado los escenarios.

Ha recibido importantes premios como el Ágora en el Festival de Teatro Clásico de Almagro por su interpretación de Oberón en El sueño de una noche de verano, de Shakespeare.
