MANOLO RAY y una Generación que va desapareciendo (Fotos) * * MANOLO RAY and a Generation that is disappearing (Photos).Ya viene muriendo la generación que cerró filas con y/o contra Fidel Castro. El martes 2 de noviembre tocó el turno azaroso al ingeniero civil Manuel Ray Rivero, de 89 años, primer ministro de Obras Públicas del Gobierno Provisional Revolucionario y líder de los grupos anticastristas Movimiento Revolucionario del Pueblo (MRP) y Junta Revolucionaria (JURE).
En julio de 1961, Ray marchó a Puerto Rico y al año fundaba JURE. Hacia junio de 1963 JURE configuraba su ala militar -con oficial de la CIA encargado de asesorar y proveer fondos y material de apoyo- para llevar adelante “operaciones autónomas” contra Castro, en las cuales Wahington negaría estar involucrado.
En una “accion” publicitada para Mayo entonces a realizarse, el 4 de junio de 1964 se reportó que la embarcación de Ray había ido a parar a Cayo Anguila (Bahamas) y el destructor británico Decoy apresó al propio Ray (bajo falsa identidad de Manuel Martínez), su querida Silvia Odio (alias Mirtha Barris, arrestada en bikini), los periodistas Andrew St. George y John T. Duncan, y cuatro cubanos. Cada uno pagó 14 dólares de multa y al ser liberados Ray alardeó: “Fidel knows me, and he knows I am coming” (Time, 12 de junio de 1964).
Castro esperó y esperó, pero la siguiente y última tentativa de infiltración de Ray se desinflaría por desperfectos mecánicos. Su lugarteniente, Rogelio Cisneros, tachó a Ray de incapaz y renunció. El ala militar se descompuso y JURE sobreviviría como grupo político simbólico hasta 1968.
En 1969 Ray convocó a un congreso de exiliados y hacia 1972 andaba todavía con intención de reanimar el anticastrismo militante en el Partido Revolucionario del Pueblo (PRP). Su firma RAY Arquitectos e Ingenieros, que había fundado en 1967, terminaría siendo su elán vital en Puerto Rico.
El alarde de Ray no da otro margen que para considerarlo maestro del tumbe criollo. Si no era aliado de la Casa Blanca, recibió de ella bastante ayuda material y financiera, que dio incluso para que JURE pagara la tirada de Réplica, que bajo la dirección de Max Lesnik -con expediente de personalidad 201-209258 en la CIA- se dedicaba a contrarrestar la propaganda probatistiana dentro del exilio cubano. EL ARRESTO DE SILVIA ODIO.
Silvia Odio no pasó a la historia por su arresto en Bahamas, sino por “The Odio Incident,” que afloró ante el Comité Especial de la Cámara sobre Asesinatos (HSCA). El investigador Gaeton Fronzi concluiría: “It appears that Silvia Odio’s testimony is essentially credible“.
Ella atestiguó que, a fines de septiembre de 1963, tres hombres pasaron por su apartamento en Dallas, Texas, para pedirle que redactara una solicitud de fondos con destino a JURE. Dos eran cubanos familiarizados con su padre, Amador Odio Padrón, preso en Cuba por tomar parte en la Operación Pedro Pan; el otro era un americano, que se presentó como Leon Oswald y ella identificaría después con Lee Harvey Oswald.
Uno de los cubanos, Leopoldo, dijo que venían de Nueva Orleans y seguían de viaje. Al otro día llamó y en la conversación soltó que el americano era un ex marine medio loco, que tenía buena puntería y decía que los cubanos eran unos pendejos, porque debieron haber matado a Kennedy tras el fiasco de Bahía de Cochinos.

MANOLO RAY AND THE GENERATION THAT IS DISAPPEARING.
