DEPORTES:ESTADOS UNIDOS AUTORIZA A CUBA A PARTICIPAR EN LA SERIE DEL CARIBE.
Cuba recibió la aprobación del Departamento de Estado de Estados Unidos para regresar a la Serie del Caribe de Béisbol, último obstáculo que enfrentaba la Isla para volver a jugar en el torneo que dominó hace seis décadas, informó ESPNDeportes.
“Para nosotros es una tremenda satisfacción informar al mundo que el regreso de Cuba a la Serie del Caribe es un hecho”, dijo a ESPNDeportes el director de desarrollo internacional de Grandes Ligas, el dominicano Joel Araujo.
Araujo indicó que la oficina del comisionado de Grandes Ligas propuso a la Confederación del Caribe que, además de Cuba, integre un sexto equipo, que inicialmente pariciparía como invitado especial.
El sexto equipo saldría del ganador de la llamada Serie Latinoamericana, que anualmente realizan Colombia, Nicaragua, Panamá y la Liga Veracruzana.
“Eso último será una decisión de la Confederación del Caribe, pero por ahora la buena noticia es que Cuba está de regreso”, dijo Araujo.
La próxima edición del campeonato caribeño se realizará del 1 al 7 de febrero de 2014 en el estadio Nueva Esparta de Isla Margarita, Venezuela. Además de Cuba, participarán México, República Dominicana, Puerto Rico y Venezuela.
