Frayde died on Wednesday morning at a nursing home in the Spanish capital, news reached via CaféFuerte friends Helen and Andrés Díaz Argüelles Lacau , which remained aware of it until his final hours .
Physician, and leader of Cuban Orthodox Party representative at UNESCO until 1965 , Frayde broke with the regime of Fidel Castro, unhappy with the direction of totalitarian revolutionary process that was advocated in the early years. In 1976 he was founder of the first breakaway group on the island, the Cuban Pro Human Rights Committee , an effort that ended taking her to prison with a sentence of 29 years.
He stayed in prison women New Dawn until November 1979, and days later, on December 8 , left forever to exilio.Se settled in Spain , where he worked intensively in favor of civil liberties and democratic rights in Cuba , tailoring information materials , denouncing abuses by voice in international forums and conferences, and spreading the reality of the island.

A critical , lucid and passionate about your life walk, the circumstances of the republic, the revolutionary dawn and disappointment of the paths taken by Fidel Castro, and finally the integrity of totalitarianism without face masks with heads held high and conviction that Cuba deserved another lucky.
With his death be part of the spirit of an era and the spirit of his generation. A great lady who knew fly decency and truth as attributes of Cuban political culture. A Cuban certain faith and patriotism.

UN ADIOS A MARTHA FRAYDE.
Hace unas horas ha muerto en Madrid, a los 93 años, la doctora Martha Frayde Barraqué (1920-2013), prominente figura de la política y la cultura cubanas del siglo XX.
Frayde falleció en la mañana de este miércoles en una residencia para ancianos en la capital española, La noticia llegó a CaféFuerte por vía de los amigos Helen Díaz Argüelles y Andrés Lacau, que se mantuvieron al tanto de ella hasta sus horas finales.
Médico de profesión, líder del Partido Ortodoxo y representante cubana en la UNESCO hasta 1965, Frayde rompió con el régimen de Fidel Castro, inconforme con el rumbo totalitario del proceso revolucionario que había defendido en los primeros años. En 1976 fue fundadora del primer grupo disidente en la isla, el Comité Cubano Pro Derechos Humanos, un empeñó que terminó llevándola a la cárcel con una condena de 29 años.
Permaneció en la prisión de mujeres Nuevo Amanecer hasta noviembre de 1979 y días después, el 8 de diciembre, salió para siempre al exilio.Se radicó en España, desde donde realizó una intensa actividad en favor de las libertades civiles y los derechos democráticos en Cuba, confeccionando materiales informativos, denunciando los atropellos de viva voz en foros y conferencias internacionales, y difundiendo la realidad de la isla.
“Soy una mujer optimista y lo que más deseo para Cuba es la reconciliación nacional”, me insistió Frayde la tarde de octubre del 2008 cuando la entrevisté en su apartamento de Madrid.
Mi encuentro con Martha Frayde resultó para para mí una experiencia verdaderamente reveladora. Un paseo crítico, lúcido y apasionado por su vida, las circunstancias de la república, los albores revolucionarios y la decepción de los rumbos tomados por Fidel Castro, y finalmente la entereza de enfrentar el totalitarismo sin máscaras, con la frente en alto y la convicción de que Cuba merecía otra suerte.
Con su muerte se va parte del espíritu de una época y del espíritu de su generación. Una gran dama que supo enarbolar la decencia y la verdad como atributos de la cultura política cubana. Una cubana de fe y patriotismo ciertos.
