Brayan Peña esperaba llegar a Cincinnati algún día. El cátcher cubano de 32 años firmó con los Rojos tras la campaña anterior, para ser el sustituto de Devin Mesoraco, quien asumirá la titularidad.
Peña firmó un acuerdo por dos años y 2.275.000 dólares, reporta la AP.
“La tradición y talento de este club lo hacen un estupendo lugar para mí”, dijo Peña. “He tratado de llegar aquí desde hace un par de años, pero la situación no había sido la adecuada hasta ahora”.

Brayan Peña Cincinnati hoped to someday. The 32 Cuban catcher signed with the Reds after the previous season, to be a substitute for Devin Mesoraco , who takes ownership.

“I immediately looked for Brayan ” said manager Bryan Price. ” Within the organization , it is strongly believed that Ryan Hanigan would be too expensive to share the post with Devin , the opportunity to take the reins had come. Pena already had a link to the club where he plays compatriot Aroldis Chapman.
Although the leaders of the Reds do not consider that to be a factor that affects the reference arrival of Pena, the newest member of Cincinnati values its relationship with the pitcher .
” Chapman had a lot to do with the fact that I came here,” he said. ” He spoke well to the organization and the fans. Told me I had a lot of chemistry here , and everyone treats you with respect.”
Peña knew something about the history of recruiting Cuban players from the Reds.
Five players played with Cincinnati Island between 1911 and 1919 , including the pitcher Adolfo Luque , who won 10 games with the team that won the World Series that year. Luque scored 154 victories in 12 seasons with Cincinnati , including 27 in 1923 , and is a member of the Hall of Fame club.
There were 16 players and coaches Cuban Reds between 1957 and 1969 , including Tony Perez, member of the Hall of Fame , who was instrumental in the “Red Machine” in the seventies and briefly served as manager .
