Una canaria de 101 años que emigró a Cuba busca a su familia. Su nieta Neyri Sabino Bourzide, que reside en Fuerteventura, no quiere que su abuela muera sin localizar a sus parientes “Falcón Castellano”.
La joven cubana Neyri Sabino Bourzide ha realizado el viaje de vuelta y regresó a Canarias hace unos años. Se estableció en Fuerteventura para emprender una nueva vida y trabajar fuera de su país. Sin embargo, quiere aprovechar su estancia en el Archipiélago para cumplir el sueño de su abuela canaria de 101 años que emigró a Cuba cuando era una niña.
“Mi abuela se llama Leonila María Falcón Castellano y toda su vida ha querido saber si tenía hermanos o parientes en Gran Canaria o en otras islas”, explica la nieta.
Leonila conserva pocos recuerdos de su infancia, vivía en Las Palmas de Gran Canaria y cuando era una niña emigró con un familiar a Cuba. “El padre de mi abuela se llamaba Isidoro Falcón Almeida y su madre Isabel Castellano Molina y ella cree que puede tener parientes en Las Palmas de Gran Canaria y por eso le gustaría conocerlos”, detalla la joven cubana. Neyri asegura que su abuela, pese a su edad, se conserva bien, aunque con movilidad reducida. “Mi abuela tuvo una vida muy intensa y feliz en Cuba, se casó con un americano y se afincó en Camagüey y tuvieron siete hijos. Una es mi madre, que también formó su familia en Cuba, y mis papás y toda la familia residen allí”, comenta emocionada.

Además, Leonila conserva el acento y las costumbres canarias de cocinar las papas y el mojo, el gofio y los potajes. Neyri recuerda que su abuela siempre hablaba de su vida en Canarias “y recordaba su infancia en un ambiente muy familiar, con mucho cariño y en un lugar tranquilo, pero nunca tuvo la oportunidad de volver de vacaciones”. Años más tarde el destino trajo a su nieta hasta Fuerteventura y ahora ella puede cumplir con la promesa que hizo a su abuela antes de partir de Cuba.
