El gimnasta cubano Ernesto Vila, campeón en los Juegos Olímpicos de la Juventud 2010 en la categoría manos libres, se fugó de la delegación cubana que participaba en Toronto en el Campeonato Panamericano de Gimnasia, clasificatorio para los Panamericanos del 2015, informa Martí Noticias citando al padre del deportista.
“Me dijo que en Estados Unidos puede trabajar duro para lograr sueños y alcanzar metas que como deportista en Cuba nunca podría lograr”, declaró el padre, quien también se llama Ernesto Vila.
Aseguró que su hijo cruzó la frontera canadiense con Estados Unidos y viajó a Chicago para abordar un vuelo con destino a Miami.
El año pasado medios de prensa oficiales describieron al joven como el mejor gimnasta del momento en Cuba.
En 2012 Vila ganó dos medallas de plata (manos libres y barras paralelas) en el campeonato panamericano juvenil.
