Naomi and Lisa-Kaínde Diaz, daughters of Cuban percussionist Miguel Anga Diaz, Ibeyi up the duo, which in Yoruba means “twins”. Born in Cuba, the sisters of 19 years are living in France now, recently signed with the record label XL, which brings together artists like Adele.
Ibeyi is a French-Cuban musical duo consisting of twin sisters, Lisa-Kaindé Diaz and Naomi Diaz. The duo sings in English and Yoruba,— a Nigerian language their ancestors spoke before being brought to Cuba by the Spanish to be made slaves in the 1700s — though Lisa’s is the lead voice. Naomi plays traditional Cuban percussion instruments cajón and Batá drum, while Lisa also plays piano.
Ibeyi is pronounced ee-bey-ee. In the Yoruba language this translates as “twins”.
Their music has elements of Yoruba, French, and Afro-Cuban and fuses jazz with beats, samples with traditional instruments.

Naomi y Lisa-Kaínde Díaz, hijas del percusionista cubano Miguel Anga Díaz, Ibeyi el dúo, que en yoruba significa “gemelas”. Nacidas en Cuba, las hermanas de 19 años viven en Francia ahora, recientemente firmaron con la discográfica XL, que reúne a artistas como Adele.
Ibeyi es un dúo musical franco-cubana consta de dos hermanas gemelas, Lisa-Kaindé Díaz y Naomi Díaz. El dúo canta en Inglés y Yoruba, – una lengua nigeriana sus antepasados hablaban antes de ser llevados a Cuba por los españoles para hacerse esclavos en el 1700 – aunque Lisa es la voz principal. Naomi toca instrumentos de percusión cubana tradicional cajón y el tambor Batá, mientras que Lisa también toca el piano.
