He is an notable Cuban writer, and old friend of Fidel Castro until the trial of General Arnaldo Ochoa and Colonel Antonio La Guardia, he escaped a death sentence in 1990s Cuba and now lives in exile in Florida. He was awarded with Casa de las Americas Prize 1968. Is the author of “The Fidel Castro Autobiography”.

The Autobiography of Fidel Castro is a gigantic project, tailored to the character and the story that Sources analyzes and crumbling as a witness, and rigorous costar while comedian and storyteller. The book is divided into two books of 13 chapters (26 to follow the fate of the Revolutionary Movement July 26): the first volume, 900 pages, now published, is titled Paradise of others, ranging from the birth of Castro within a family landed in East (13 August 1926) to the flight of dictator Fulgencio Batista on 1 January 1959. the second, which appear in autumn and is called absolute and insufficient power, travels from that mythical first year until today.

As a writer and journalist, friend of Fidel Castro, had privileged knowledge of the Cuban secret service during some of the most difficult years of the Cuban Revolution. After spending many years alongside Castro, Fuentes tried to escape the island, was detained and eventually released.

Almost as torrential conversationalist and Machiavellian as Castro, Fuentes gained fame by writing Damned County, 1968 novel that cost him 15 years of ostracism “without assuming the role of victim”; then it keeps getting better: a friend of Fidel became (after donating militias $ 10,000 for the advancement of his book on Hemingway), fought in Angola, knew the secret services, was a spy and arms dealer decorated by the Revolution, but his friendship with Ochoa and De la Guardia executed first made him hostage, then rafter (caught in the act in 1993) and hunger striker and luxurious exile via Gabriel García Márquez in 1994.

He now lives in the United States. Bulk of the materials in this collection display the knowledge Fuentes has about Castro, especially it is evident in the manuscript of The Autobiography of Fidel Castro. The materials also have wealth of information on drug, money laundering, and robberies perpetrated by Cuban agents or coordinated by Cuba.
