Walter Elias “Walt” Disney (December 5, 1901 to December 15, 1966) was a film producer, director, screenwriter, voice actor, animator, entrepreneur, artist and philanthropist, known for his influence in the field of entertainment during the 20th century Along with his brother Roy O. Disney, he was co-founder of Walt Disney Productions, which later became one of the best-known motion picture producers in the world.
When Walt Disney suffered a nervous breakdown in 1931, his doctor suggested a vacation to escape the pressures of the execution of the study. On the advice of his doctor, Walt planned a cruise to Seattle with his wife, followed by visits with his parents in Oregon and Idaho her relatives. The couple changes their mind and booked a trip to Hawaii.
According to the digital image licensing company Corbis, the photo on the left shows “Walt Disney, clever originator of the world-famous Mickey Mouse animated cartoons and newspaper comic strip, on the terrace of his hotel during a two-week holiday in Havana.” Like the image to the right, in which Walt looks especially relaxed, it is dated by Corbis October 30, 1931. Michael Barrier has a print of the latter photo “marked as published in the Philadelphia Inquirer on October 31,” with “a wire-service caption dating it as from October 30, 1931.”
In Havana, Walt and Lillian Disney stayed at the posh Hotel Nacional de Cuba, designed by the prestigious architectural firm of McKim, Mead and White (the hotel had opened just nine months earlier, on Dec. 30, 1930). The Disneys’ sojourn in Cuba was the principal stop on what the Los Angeles Times (Nov. 12, 1931) described as “a five-weeks tour,” … Walt’s “first vacation in four years.” The itinerary was hastily cobbled together after, as Walt later remarked, he’d suffered “a hell of a breakdown,” caused by stress running the studio. It would be the couple’s longest and most exciting vacation prior to their “grand tour” of Europe (London, Paris, Rome, etc.) with Roy and Edna Disney, in the summer of 1935.
The trip to Hawaii was also canceled and instead make a trip that included stops in St. Louis, a trip down the Mississippi on a boat, a stop in Florida, then to Cuba, before returning home via the Channel Panama.
In Cuba the Disney staying at the “National Hotel”. Room 445 is named in honor of the illustrious visitor.
Walt Disney, impressed by Cuban-style percussion, used his stay in Cuba to record rumbas solar, drumbeats and congas discovered in poor neighborhoods. The National Hotel violated one of his golden rules and allowed access by black musicians who played for Team Disney, who shortly thereafter include this music in his cartoons.
No doubt that his character “bongo” later created this trip to Cuba, something has to do phonetically with percussion instrument called in Cuba bongo and changing emphasis in your language. There is no accident that the “Bongos Cuban Café” in “Downtown Disney West Side” remain oblivious to this story.
Few pictures have to travel, but at least one, taken in the “Hotel NacionalNacional” which was published on February 29, 1932 on “Daily News Hamilton with the following:
“Here’s looking at you! Even when Walter Disney, creator of Mickey Mouse comic published in The Daily News from today, try to take a vacation, you can not escape the funny little rodent. Shown in the picture .. in Havana, resting from the work of inventing new adventures of Mickey, who has penetrated the barriers of all languages to become famous.
Possible that this trip is when he meets the Cuban cartoonist Conrado Massaguer, whom we mentioned in two publications, for when Maribona travels to New York as a political exile, due to his criticism of the President Machado in the “Vintage Magazine”, fail to Walt Disney meet who he says “and friend was considered”. In 1951 he was appointed Managing Massaguer in Hollywood by the Commission for the Defense and Propaganda of Snuff Habano. In the so-called Mecca of film was feted by Walt Disney and Warner Brothers.
According to Gunnar Andreassen, who owns documentation “California SS”, the luxury cruise Walt and his wife sailed from Cuba to Los Angeles, departed from Havana on November 3, 1931 and arrived at the port of Los Angeles 14 November. Apparently his stay in Havana was prolonged, if we consider that the publication that was discussed earlier of February 29.
On many occasions it has been said that Walt Disney is “pending cryogenic medicine is developed enough to return to life. But the truth is that he died of lung cancer, his body was cremated, and his ashes rest since the Forest Lawn cemetery in Glendale, California. But all his endearing characters are alive and continue keeping company with many generations to come …
