If the US authorities were concerned about the increasing flow of boat people to the shores of Florida in recent months, figures for the entry of Cubans across the Mexican border are to trigger alarms.
Statistics CaféFuerte delivered to the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) indicate that 6,532 Cubans arrived in the United States by border parts of Mexico since last October 1, when it began FY2015.
The illegal arrival of Cubans for the border of Mexico to request political asylum with the US authorities is to date 37% of the 17,459 who entered in this way in fiscal 2014.
The CBP did not break down the overall figure in each of the past months, but one source said the federal agency has seen a significant rise in arrivals of Cubans after December 17, when President Barack Obama announced the restoration of diplomatic relations with the government of Raul Castro and a shift in US policy toward the island. The rumors about a possible abolition of the Cuban Adjustment Act (CAA), which allows regularize the status in the United States since 1966, acrecentaron sea travel and cruises to the border points.

More than 900 Cubans have been intercepted in the Straits of Florida and the Caribbean, or have managed to reach US shores since the beginning of fiscal year 2015. Of these, 577 did during December.

The CBP did not disclose the number of Cubans who have come from October to date by the Canadian border, and other detention centers and international airports. It is estimated that the number exceeds 2,000.
On Friday, federal authorities issued another warning insisting that the recent announcement by the Obama administration regarding Cuba is not a change in immigration policy established by the decree of “feet dry / wet feet” and the CAA.
“We are still seeking to promote safe, legal and orderly migration from Cuba under our Migration Accords and discourage illegal immigration dangerous,” said a statement from CBP. “We maintain a strong stance on enforcement of our immigration laws along the border and coastal areas of the country, and our guard aggressively patrol the Straits of Florida and the Caribbean to intercept immigrants traveling from Cuba to the United States. ”

Si las autoridades estadounidenses estaban preocupadas por el creciente flujo de balseros hacia las costas de la Florida durante los últimos meses, las cifras de la entrada de cubanos por la frontera mexicana son como para disparar las alarmas.
Estadísticas entregadas a CaféFuerte por el Departamento de Aduanas y Protección de Fronteras (CBP) indican que 6,532 cubanos arribaron a Estados Unidos por puntos fronterizos del territorio mexicano desde el pasado 1de octubre, cuando comenzó el año fiscal 2015.
El arribo ilegal de cubanos por la franja fronteriza de México para solicitar refugio político ante las autoridades estadounidenses constituye hasta la fecha el 37% de los 17,459 que entraron por esa vía en el período fiscal 2014.
El CBP no desglosó la cifra general en cada uno de los meses transcurridos, pero una fuente de la entidad federal dijo que se ha observado un alza significativa en las llegadas de cubanos después del 17 de diciembre, cuando el presidente Barack Obama anunció el restablecimiento de relaciones diplomáticas con el gobierno de Raúl Castro y un giro en la política estadounidense hacia la isla. Las versiones sobre una posible abolición de la Ley de Ajuste Cubano (CAA), que permite la regularizar el estatus en Estados Unidos desde 1966, acrecentaron los viajes marítimos y las travesías hacia los puntos fronterizos.

Los registros del CBP indican también una escalada de 2,135 cubanos procesados y beneficiados con un parole tras arribar por Miami, tanto en operaciones marítimas o solicitando refugio al llegar al Aeropuerto Internacional de Miami (MIA).
El CBP no reveló la cifra de cubanos que han entrado desde octubre a la fecha por la frontera canadiense, y otras estaciones migratorias y aeropuertos internacionales. Se calcula que el número supere las 2,000 personas.
El pasado viernes, las autoridades federales emitieron otra advertencia insistiendo en que el reciente anuncio de la administración Obama respecto a Cuba no significa un cambio en la política de inmigración establecida mediante el decreto de “pies secos/ pies mojados” y la CAA.
“Seguimos buscando promover una emigración segura, legal y ordenada desde Cuba bajo nuestros Acuerdos Migratorios y desalentar la peligrosa emigración ilegal”, dijo un comunicado de CBP. “Mantenemos una postura sólida en cuanto a la aplicación de nuestras leyes de inmigración a lo largo de las fronteras y las zonas costeras del país, y nuestros guardacostas patrullan agresivamente el Estrecho de la Florida y el Caribe para interceptar inmigrantes que viajan de Cuba hacia Estados Unidos”.
