FAMOUS VISITORS WHO STAYED AT THE “HOTEL NACIONAL” HAVANA, CUBA.
The land on which today is located the Hotel Nacional de Cuba, were part of the area called “Monte Vedado”, due to a government decree forbidding Spanish in this area paths to the beach to be opened.

FAMOSAS PERSONALIDADES QUE SE HOSPEDARON EN EL “HOTEL NACIONAL”, LA HABANA, CUBA.
Los terrenos en los que hoy está situado el Hotel Nacional de Cuba, formaron parte de la zona denominada “Monte Vedado”, debido a un decreto del Gobierno Español que prohibía que en esta zona se abriesen caminos hacia la playa.
Los constantes ataques de corsarios y piratas y luego la toma de La Habana por los ingleses, llevaron a la edificación de diversas obras de protección y defensa, torreones, baterías, y en estos terreno), fue emplazada la Batería de Santa Clara, De este sistema defensivo, se exhiben en el jardín dos cañones: el “Krupp” y el “Ordóñez”, siendo este último el cañón más grande del mundo en su época.
El promontorio donde está construido el Hotel, era conocido como la “loma de Taganana”, que alude al nombre con que se conoció por siglos la famosa cueva, que existe bajo los cimientos del Hotel, y que nombra “Sala Taganana” a uno de sus elegantes salones.
A finales de la segunda década del siglo XX se decide iniciar la construcción de un Hotel lujoso. Las firmas americanas Mc Kim, Mead & White y la Purdy Henderson Co, encargadas de los planos y la ejecución, concluyeron la majestuosa edificación en 14 meses.
El Hotel muestra en su arquitectura un estilo ecléctico, donde están presentes, el Art Decó, las reminiscencias árabes, las características de la arquitectura hispano- morunas, así como lo Neoclásico y Neocolonial, hasta se muestran detalles del ambiente californiano de siglos atrás, todo esto ha hecho que el Hotel sea el más interesante y excepcional en la región del Caribe como muestra única de tantas corrientes arquitectónicas.
La noche del 30 de diciembre de 1930, tuvo lugar la inauguración del Hotel Nacional de Cuba, distinguidas personalidades de esa época acudieron al Ball Room, donde tuvo efecto la fiesta inaugural.
VISITANTES FAMOSOS.
En la década del 30, fueron clientes del hotel: Johnny Weissmuller (Tarzán), Eduardo VIII (Príncipe de Gales), Jack Dempsey, Tom Mix, José Mujica, Buster Keaton, Rita Montaner, José Raúl Capablanca, Tito Guizart, Trío Matamoros, Ñico Saquito, Errol Flynn, y los mafiosos Santos Traficante (padre) y Meyer Lansky, quien coordinaba entonces sus futuros negocios de los casinos de juego.
En febrero de 1946 visita Cuba y se el Sr. Winston Churchill, que recibe atención protocolar del gobierno de Cuba.

En 1956 se inaugura el Cabaret Parisien por Eartha Kitt y entre las voces que lo han amenizado están las de Vic Damone, Nat King Cole, René Cabel, Esther Borjas, cuarteto Los Modernistas e Yma Sumac, con la excelente animación de Mario Martínez, entre tantos que han dado vida a las noches del Nacional.Y aún sigue ahí…
