Este sábado los Tigres de Ciego de Ávila ganaron 7-2 a la Isla de la Juventud en el último juego de la 54 Serie Nacional de Béisbol, para erigirse así como los nuevos campeones de la pelota cubana.
Con el lanzador Yander Guevara en el montículo, los avileños alcanzaron su segundo título nacional, pues en la final de la temporada 2011-2012 salieron victoriosos frente a Industriales.
En esta ocasión los Tigres jugaron en su propio patio, en el estadio José Ramón Cepero, que durante las cuatro horas de juego acogió a más de 12.000 seguidores del béisbol.
Los avileños acumularon hoy 12 indiscutibles y no cometieron ningún error, mientras que los Piratas no pudieron ir más allá de dos anotaciones y cometieron un par de imprecisiones: un corredor fue sorprendido adelantando demasiado cuando estaban en plena racha anotadora y después el torpedero cometió un error en fildeo. Por su parte, Ciego de Ávila estuvo impecable en la defensa, y su bateo, cuyo orden fue cambiado para este encuentro definitivo, funcionó maravillosamente.
El único susto que sufrieron los anfitriones durante este séptimo juego fueron las dos carreras fabricadas por los Piratas en la parte alta del sexto inning. Entonces los Tigres tenían sólo tres anotadas y de todas formas aún conservaban la ventaja, pero La Isla es un equipo muy difícil de superar cuando el juego se vuelve tan cerrado y eso suele pesar en el juego de pelota.
Sin embargo, no más comenzar la siguiente mitad de la entrada, Ciego de Ávila fabricó otras dos carreras. Y luego dos más en el séptimo capítulo para terminar de acumular las siete que consiguió en total. Mientras, la defensa de los Piratas fallaba una y otra vez en aguantar el empuje de los locales. Aunque los visitadores amenazaron más tarde, de nuevo dejaron varios corredores en circulación y las carreras necesarias nunca llegaron.
Los avileños estuvieron todo el juego por delante en el marcador y lograron anotar carreras en los innings 1, 3, 6 y 7, mientras que sólo permitieron dos de los isleños en la sexta entrada.
Vale resaltar la actuación de Yander Guevara, el abridor de los Tigres de este último duelo. El pitcher abandonó el montículo justo al finalizar la séptima entrada y hacer su lanzamiento número cien en el partido. Se mantuvo encima en la pizarra en todo momento frente a su rival Yoalkis Cruz, el serpentinero refuerzo de los Piratas.
La Gran Final, reñida y cargada de sana rivalidad deportiva, completó sus siete juegos a ganar cuatro. Algunos de los cuales finalizaron con un marcador bastante apretado, de apenas una carrera de diferencia.
Los Piratas, habían llegado a la final después de dejar en el camino a los equipos de Industriales y Matanzas.
Sin embargo, los piratas no se fueron con la cabeza baja, pues lograron su mejor actuación en una Serie Nacional de béisbol, aunque por esta vez el podio se alejó de ellos, justo cuando más cerca estaba.
Antes de la ceremonia de premiación, con motivo de su triunfo, los Tigres sustituyeron su uniforme por pulóveres y gorras completamente blancos y fueron ovacionados frente a su afición. Dentro de unos diez meses, serán el equipo que representará a Cuba en la Serie del Caribe, a celebrarse en República Dominicana.
