The O played six seasons with Santiago de Cuba in which he hit .312 with eight homers and 113 RBIs, and after his performance in San Juan attracted the attention of talent evaluators in the majors.
Island team lost 2-0 the two games he has played with North Carolina to the US college selection.

Un segundo integrante del equipo cubano que juega en Carolina del Norte partidos amistosos con una selección universitaria estadounidense, habría aprovechado para escapar, informa el diario miamense El Nuevo Herald.
Se trata del jugador de cuadro Luis Yander la O. Su fuga se produce poco después de la del jardinero matancero Yadiel Hernández, quien huyó en un auto el miércoles, según la misma publicación.
“Hay mucha agitación, porque este es el segundo que se queda”, dijo una fuente cercana a los peloteros en el lugar del tope, indicó El Nuevo Herald. “Este era uno de los puntales para los Juegos Panamericanos de Toronto”.
El diario publicó que La O había dicho que no abandonaría la Isla sin su familia y que su plan era retornar a Cuba después de los Panamericanos de este mes en Toronto y pedir la baja para emigrar legalmente. Sin embargo, habría cambiado de idea, al parecer por “algún tipo de presión”.
En mayo, el propio jugador desmintió rumores de que habría abandonado Cuba.
“Hasta su casa fueron las autoridades deportivas y le preguntaron si él estaba pensando irse y él les dijo que no, que él no se quedaría de manera ilegal”, apuntó una segunda fuente, citada por el diario miamense.
Junto a Yuliesky Gourriel y Frederich Cepeda, La O fue de lo más destacado del seleccionado cubano que conquistó la última Serie del Caribe, al conectar de 16-7, con dos impulsadas en cuatro juegos.
El pelotero, de 23 años y más de cinco temporadas en Series Nacionales, no está sujeto a las regulaciones de la Oficina del Comisionado de las Grandes Ligas para agentes libres cubanos.
La O jugó seis temporadas con Santiago de Cuba en las cuales conectó para .312 con ocho cuadrangulares y 113 impulsadas, y luego de su actuación en San Juan atrajo la atención de los evaluadores de talento de las Mayores.
El equipo de la Isla ha perdido 2-0 los dos partidos que ha disputado con Carolina del Norte con la selección universitaria de Estados Unidos.
Para los cubanos, estos duelos son parte de la preparación para los XVII Juegos Panamericanos Toronto-2015, a realizarse entre el 11 y 19 de este mes.
